Raw Oysters?

Recommended Posts

I'm guessing these are a no-no, since they cannot be chewed into small bits...I guess if I slurped down a whole one it would have no way of getting through the stoma. Does this mean I can never enjoy a good, cold, fresh, raw oyster ever again?!?

I've eatten them without a problem except for the 'eye'. Sometimes I need to swallow it in small pieces.

omg I couldn't imagine trying to get one of those through my band... up it would come after serious amounts of pain.

Thanks, Jazlady, that makes me feel better. I'm in New Orleans too, so you know how important oysters are to my well-being!

Oh man don't rub it in :tt2: I haven't had those since I lived in the south... if you told someone in Oregon you wanted a crawfish they would look at you like your senile.

I was too scared to try them pre-banded, lol. Now I wouldn't have the heart.

Sometimes with foods I am not sure about, I just cut them up into pieces. It might be a little messy with oysters and they may not look any more appealing chopped . . . but it could be a safe option and they would taste the same.

Can I come live with you? I don't mind the remodel noise. I miss real food. Hippy foods ok for a while but I am dying to have something good.

Tonight were going to a fish house that promises that it's fresh and the fish changes daily depending on the catch...

Sashimi here I come... God please be fresh.

never had raw oysters...

heck the first time i had sushi was like two weeks ago .. i had mini salmon rolls.. uyummy.. i was only able to eat 4, before my band yelled stop!!!!! i think 4 mini is equal to 1 large roll right???

but anyways as soon as i can get walking like a healthy young adult and not like th hunchback of notre dame im going to purchase some more sushi rolls..

as far as crawfish... never tried it... Is it good???

Does it have a very strong taste or is it a more mild fish??

Smaller oysters like kumamotos and tottens might be a tasty solution. They are closer to being a normal bite-size piece of meat unlike the larger varieties that are probably 2 to 3+ bites if you were actually going to cut it up and eat it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
