Just Getting Started....

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody,

I'm new to the site. I'm just getting started gathering information about the lap band procedure. I have my first seminar Tues, Mar 24th. I'm reading all the posts to learn as much as I can from those of you who are farther along in the process. Thanks for sharing your information-it sure helps. I'm really nervous about it all, but feel I'm at the place where I need to take this step. I'm retirement age, and am about 150 pounds overweight. I just can't get the weight off by myself. :tt2:

Welcome Skywalk64!!!!

this is a awesome place to gather information, there is also some stuff on youtube if your interested in seeing what you get to go thru in terms of the actual surgery there is a blogger on there called thebandinme and it's pretty awesome she got to take the camera with her all the way up to the surgery and afterwards (not in the surgery) but it's really a first person perspective on what happens if you have any questions feel free to ask everyone here is really nice

Thank you so much for your post. I'm having a heck of a time trying to get around to everything on this site, and I'm just now reading your reply. There's so much good information here. I'm going to pull up youtube and watch the video you told me about. I've had to start dieting (using Amaza rx) to lose 30 pounds before the doctor will do the surgery, and I can use all the inspiration I can get. :smile2:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
