Anyone else noticing this?

I agree with you maestreata - their are many different factors to take into consideration. Long ago when I was a stay at home mother and did not have to work, I litterally spent 2 hours at the gym daily and always ate healthy foods cause I had plenty of time for meal planning, shopping and cooking. Now that I work full time 10 hour days in an office setting it is so much harder! I went to the gym tonight and monday night after working a 10 hour day which is not an easy thing to do - yesterday I was just too wiped out and did not make it their - I wonder if the person who started this thread works and if you do do you work full time?

It is much harder when you work full time. also the dynamics of what you do for a living also plays a big part - I work in an office at a sit down job all day and people always bringing in goodies and potlucks and offering chocolate and candy - constantly pulling on your will power - whereas someone else might have a job where they are moving around and/or not exposed to wrong foods all day long - also the bigger you are and the more weight you have to lose the quicker you lose it in the beginning. If a person is 300 pounds they are going to lose much more weight much more rapidly than a person who weighs 180 and it would be absurd for the one who weighs 300 to judge the one who weighs 180 for not losing as much weight as quickly!!! then the person who only weighs 180 could turn around and judge the person who weighs 300 for getting that big in the first place! Too many factors to consider to be judgmental about peoples weight loss journey!!

I wish I could get motivated by the money spent on this, but my husband does the bills and Im not too sensitive in this area. I have lost from 205lbs. to 170lbs. this year and will lose more with time. Im not offended, but Ive lost this same 55lbs+, 3 or 4 times and Im just taking it easy now. Sorry,just not a candidate on money=motivation issue but If I were, Id be S-K-I-N-N-E-Y.

Obviously people that are getting upset did not read this thread close enough.

I think this is a great thread. what biggestloser is saying is she hates when people complain bout losing slow and then post that they are cheating or not doing any workouts at all!

Shes not complaining about the SLOW LOSERS in general.

It is annoying when people complain and then say oh but I ate this or that, or just sit around. well you could of done that without the band! insurance or self pay, you wont do good if your lazy with the band!!!!!!!!

What I have noticed is that people will spend tons of time responded if they can argue about something, but a post about an easy way to share what we are eating is ignored.

I think it is the nature of man to want to fight with each other rather then work with each other.

On one hand, I can see where the poster is coming from-

On the other as a future self-payer I find myself drawn to other self-payers experience because they relate mostly to myself, so my overall observation I'm sure is different then if I was a insurance covered individual.

I would like to also second the previous posters statement about insurance is not free. Unless your on Medicaid and well.......I'm not opening that box....... now that's a poll that would start some s**t!

I think either way- people should educate themselves as much as possible *duh*. I'm personally glad I have to wait, although reluctant, I think will overall give me more drive.

Interesting thread. Not banded yet, just beginning the process. However, I have been jumping around the forum reading lots of posts. My impression is that is more of an issue of personality type/maturity level vs. self-pay or ins. pay when it comes to posters are going against doctor's/nutritionist's orders and then are astounded that they are not losing weight. Just my opinion. :tt2:

You certainly didn't offend me. I look at it this way, I am looking everywhere for motivation. You have one additional place to look and I truly am glad that helps. My main motivation was being off blood pressure medicine and hopefully one week away from finding out my sleep apnea is cured.

I like the previous analogy of college students. Having to pay for college myself, DID make me work harder than my friends who had a "free ride." However, that said, I don't think you can paint all bandsters with the "self pay" "non self-pay" brush.

I personally took the OP as saying that he is tired of people complaining about the band not working while they're eating forbidden foods and not exercising. I thought the self-pay comment was just an added "extra" :tt2:

I do understand to some extent what you are trying to convey. Let me state that I pay 197.00 per pay period which for me is every two weeks for my insurance to cover my family. I was also not covered 100% for the hospital portion. I have an out of pocket expense of over $2000.00 not including my $30.00 copays and the initial $250.00 fee I paid my Dr's office which was not billed to the insurance company. You have to be careful when you say free because I pay my insurance every two weeks weather or not my family or I go to the Dr's office.

I can understand your fustration with some of the post where people state that band is not working however that is what this site is for. This site is for encouragement, information and support. Unfortunately many people that have had lap band or bypass surgery can not undo years of bad habbits. Maybe they did not educate themselves enough or maybe thier dr did not educate enough or maybe they just do not see the bigger picture to want to take the inititive to make this tool work. I had lapband surgery two months ago and still do not have the amount of restriction that I thought I would have. For me personally thank God I could come and read information from real people like myself to better understand this journey that I am going through. Although my dr. did explain and provide information along with pros and cons my expectations of this surgery were completely different prior to.

Insurance covered mine and I was not a slow loser. I have also seen people who were self-pay and upset because they paid so much and were not seeing the results they expected. I suppose there are some that were fortunate enough to get surgery covered and didn't appreciate the opportunity enough to work hard for it but for the most part, the people I have seen have been greatful to have the surgery no matter the costs.

Congratulations JODI on being NORMAL!!!!:) I noticed you just got there today, WAY TO GO!!

I'm excited because I'm not longer morbidly obese..just obese :) The Dr. told me this week I've made the first jump. So I said, "Wonderful, not I'm not really fat, just fat" and I'm thrilled with that. One day I will be in "Onderland" and normal with you, but until then..CONGRATS Girl-That's AWESOME!!!:tt2:

I have to say that I see where you are coming from. I researched and wanted to have this surgery done for 2 years. My insurance would not pay 1cent for wt loss surgery. I knew taking out a loan was not an option either. I worked really hard to get a good bonus at work and was able to pay cash for my surgery last week. I believe since paying this large amt of money I will be motivated to work much harder and not fail.

Maybe I'm the exception that proves the rule, but the fact that my insurance paid for my surgery tends to make me more responsible for my actions. If I had self-paid, my attitude would probably be "Hey, it's my money, I can waste it if I want!" Since the insurance company paid, I feel a responsibility to other people. Same with going to the gym - my doctor has his own gym which patients can use for free. For me, the idea that I had nothing to lose was a much bigger motivator in checking it out than paying up the ying-yang for a gym membership. Just MHO only!

Success is not paid for.

Success is something that you gain only from hard work and dedication.

Some people struggle more than others. I am one of them. It is totally and completely my fault. I own up to that here and everywhere. You see, the bonus of doing this here is support. I only mention that because some here were curious why people would say that here. This is a support website.

If this was all about tooting your own horn, this site would be pretty darned boring, don't you think?

Now, don't get me wrong, you have every right to state your case and "vent". There's plenty more where that came from here. Some vent about Cliques, some vent about rude people, some vent about things that really I honestly have no idea... but that is what makes this place so great!

We can all hide behind a screen name and yell off the rooftops what we are really feeling, without having to do it to someone's face. Passive agressive at it's finest.

In the future, if there is something so detrimental to your own personal happiness, may I suggest ignoring it or skipping it over? It works wonders for me.

I do agree with you I have lost 35 pounds in three weeks because I look at my savings account and the money is no longer there. I am very proud of the weight I have lost and the dedication it takes. Keep it up!

      2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation.       On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
