Flying abroad, anyone have issues

Recommended Posts

I am going to europe in May and was wondering if anyone has flown for long distances and if they had issues.

My Dr said yesterday that some people have trouble with swelling, but most dont. Was suggested that I be on a liquid diet the day of flying.

Thoughts and experiances would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Lois

In my experience, flights over 35000' and/or of 4+ hours resulted in tightness the next day...so I would be on fluids. Shorter flights have not been a problem.

I have flown to Europe twice since I was banded and had absolutely no problems and did not do liquids. I have also flown domestic twice with no issues.

Thank you both, I may just do liquids to cover myself.

I have trouble every time I fly, short or small distances. Takes me a day or two to recover.

And when on the plane, while in the air, can hardly eat a thing. I had a wicked PB mid-flight in the bathroom on Hawaiian air. I'm sure you can imagine how utterly disgusting it is to PB into an airplane potty. Ugh!

Just take it easy. And enjoy your trip!!

I just went back and forth to Nairobi, 9600 miles each way. I chose not to have a fill (I was due for one) before the trip. I was maybe slightly tighter, but barely noticeable.

I have flown to Qatar, Japan, and Australia in the 16 months since I've had my band. The first trip was just 3 months after. I had no problems with any of my trips. I'm just careful about what I eat, pack a few of my own snacks-Protein bars that go down okay in case the food on the plane is something I can't eat. I avoid the bread on the plane and drink plenty of Water.

The only thing special I did was take a needle from my surgeon and my lap-band card with me to Japan in case I had any complications and needed an emergency unfill for some reason. Lap-band is done in the Qatar and Australia so I knew I wouldn't have any problems showing up in a hospital there but Japan is a whole 'nother story!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
