Health issues after PS

Recommended Posts

Is this the right place to post this? I haven't received a reply so I am wondering.

Hello! It has been a long time since I have written. I had a full TT and Lift/Aug this past September. I had reached my goal sometime before that point. Since the surgery, I have had agonizing pain caused by Lower Back (L5-S1) disc and tendinitis.

Since the PS I haven't been out of pain. I am seeing a pain specialist now and looking at the prospect of lower back surgery before I end up being paralyzed by this disc compressing my nerves.

Since being on the pain killers, it has been INCREDIBLY difficult to keep the weight off. Does anyone have any words of advice, support, etc to help? I am so obsessed about my weight and have dwindle back into those helpless feelings I had before surgery.

I have no restriction with my band and have quite a bit of guilt about gaining some weight back that I am reluctant to go in for a fill.

Any one have words of support or encouragement?

Karen,

First, I am so sorry for the pain you are feeling after your surgery. Back pain is never easy. I certainly hope that it can be resolved.

Next, please don't let yourself feel "guilty" about gaining some weight. Managing your weight while you are in pain has got to be very tough. Most of us got to be obese by self medicating with food. That has to be very tempting for you now.

Last, please get to your band doctor and have him/her get you to restriciton. You shouldn't have to go through this alone. Your band doctor should be understanding of your situation and should NOT make you feel guilty. Don't be ashamed to ask for help when you fall down. What's important is what you do from this day forward. Forget about any weight gain and start fresh today.

Best of luck!!

I'm sorry you're having to go through this. I'm pre-plastic surgery myself but as far as the being depressed and not going for a fill because of the gain that is not a good idea. That happened to me once and I gained 15 lbs. I had to suck it up and go see the Dr. rather sheepishly, but am glad I did. He really wasn't that bad. lol. Anyway, hope you get some more responses, but know that I'm thinking about you. Hope you get some relief from that pain.

Sam

Karen:

I feel for your pain. I agree with oneflew, try to get back to your lapband doctor to get restriction back. If you don't have restriction, and you're taking pain meds, how can you lose weight? I'm sure that your lapband doctor wants you to be successful, and he/she may have suggestions to get you back on track while you're dealing with your medical issues.

I hope things improve soon.

Sue

Karen,

I'm sorry to hear about the back pain. My back goes out from time to time, but nothing as serious as your problem. Unfortunately, I don't have any good advice on that front.

As for the band, do go and get a fill. The band is there when we need it. I hope your doctor won't be a problem, but if so, you can always remind him that that is why your band is there and you need its help!

Good luck!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
