Addicted to the scale

Recommended Posts

So it is obvious. I am addicted to the scale. I have packed my scale away because I am moving actually today is the big move. I am having anxiety over how much I way. I want to know. Not having the scale at the end of my bed every morning I wake is giving me anxiety. I never realized how bad it was.

After everything is moved I am going to try to keep it packed. I seem to be eating better since I am afraid of the unknown. With it laying around if I cheated, I would weigh myself a couple days after and if my cheating didn't have an effect. I would push to see how far I could take my cheating without having an effect.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Yep! I am a huge scale watcher! I weigh in the morning and at night and usually I can tell how much I will be down in the morning when I look at the night total. I feel like if I don't keep watching it I might gaina nd not know it and then spiral back to old habits!

I am also addicted to the scale as well. I weigh at least 2 times per day. I need it to keep me in the right direction. I find if I don't I start down the wrong path with eating and exercise.

i was like that, at the begining. But after a few weeks, i found it mentally exhausting so i threw them in the garbage bin.

My husband bought some new ones a few weeks ago. but i only use them on fridays.

Absolutely. If I don't weigh everyday, it's too easy to get off track. If the scale goes up, then I know I have to crack down on what/how much I am eating and increase my exercise. It's too easy to just let things slide, so I have to really be on top of every pound.

When I was first banded I weighed multiple times a day. After I ate anything after I used the restroom, I weighed ALL THE TIME! I knew that I was getting obsessed with the scale so I then started weighing once a week. I found that to be to infrequent for me. So now I weigh once a day, in the morning as soon as I wake up. My weight will fluctuate throughout the week so I do not let weigh ins upset me. I only record an official weigh in once a week. I use the rest of the weigh ins to help me stay on track. If I gain some weight I adjust my calorie intake. I try not to be too obsessive about it though.

I am also addicted! I weigh every morning - I have to! I know that I shouldn't, but I am all freaked out when I can't get on the scale. I am afraid that I will gain weight and not be able to get it under control.

From one addiction to another! Isn't that the addicts way??? LOL!

This is a common topic here and it seems like this addiction affects us differently. Personally, besides when I was on vacation I don't think a morning has gone by since banding that I didn't weigh myself. I do it every morning right after I get out of bed and use the bathroom. I have also been known to weigh myself multiple times a day. It has helped me to understand how things like eating, exercising, hormones/TOM, drinking Water etc. affect my loss. It keeps me accountable. So I think it is a important part of my program. If frequent weighing is causing stress and weight fluctuations are just making you want to give up or you are using it as a tool to see how far you can stretch your limits then I would say it is time to give it up.

We talked about this at support group last night. I totally agree with Jodi - if you use at as a tool for weight loss, then it will serve you well. If all it does is stress you out, then you should weigh less frequently.

I like the accountability, it really makes me take a look at the exercise and eating I did the day before. I only "count" what I weigh on Friday morning so the other days are just the check points.

The nutritionist said that people that have maintained long term weight loss do weigh themselves frequently - so I guess that it isn't too obsessive!

I felt depressed and hopeless with losing weight until I bought a new digital scale last week. Now the scales are moving in 1/10th of a pound increments I feel better and am sticking to eating less since I can see improvement. I only weigh first thing in the morning, though I think about doing it several times a day!!

I am dependent on my scales but I have learned that if I am going to keep it off I need them. I also weigh daily sometime multiple times but I only record Friday's weight. The other days have helped me figure out what I need to avoid and what I need to do more of.

Digital scales are a must for me. I don't record the 10ths but the accuracy is very important. I was recently out of town for a few days and couldn't weigh and I was nervous until I could get home and have a good nights sleep and then weigh. My husband got a kick out of it.

For me good digital scales are a must and I plan to never be without them unless I am traveling.

I am additted to the scale too but had to educate myself about weight fluctuations. I absolutely do not weigh when I'm on my period because I am really bloated and feel crapy. I am trying to get better about getting on the scale because it can be fustrating at times and cause you to focus way to much on your weight than on the long term goals.

I too weigh multiple times everyday. I think it helps you learn how different routines, foods, hydration, sleep, etc all effect your weight. EVERYTHING has an impact on EVERYTHING. I have gotten to the point that I can guess at my evening weigh-in what my morning weigh-in will be - and am normally very very close, if not spot-on to the 1/10th of a pound.

I agree with the others - if you use it as a tool - it's motivating. But if it stresses you out - hide it!

Brad

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
