well i guess it depends on if your going to have an overnight stay or not. i was in at 7:00 am and home by 3:00 pm. i would suggest a zip up sweater or jacket. that way when you dress to go home you don't have to mess with getting a shirt over your head. also a nice comfy pair of pants with drawstrings or elastic waist. Chapstick. your lips might be dry when you wake up. there might be a post some where on this sight that has a list of things to bring. good luck!!!

Thank you:) I'll be staying overnight. I'm a little nervous because i've never had to stay in the hospital before.

First, GOOD LUCK! I am 5 days out from my overnight, my robe was the most important to me. They will have you walk in the halls and sitting up as much as possible and the hospital tends to be chilly. something to read, and the usual toiletries. Pull on pants (loose), button shirt, slip on shoes/slippers. Many say a small pillow for ride home but my husband bought the big one so I didn't use it. Get what ever pain meds doc prescribes (if you can) at the hospital pharmacy. For home, chewable vitamins, sugar free Popsicles (great for Fluid count)this helps with the dry mouth, get some of the one ounce cups from your room for sipping. Sipping was hard to learn for me. I am on liquids for a week and can have Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar) with skim milk, HIGH Protein Slim Fast, Sugar Free Jell-O, strained Soups (not creamy). I also got a heating pad, ice bag (used neither), liquid Tylenol and GAS-X. They pump gas into you for surgery and it moves around inside feeling like you swallowed to much air:tt2:. I can burp so that helps but move often, if I sit for more than 10 or so minutes I get a big bubble; so I just go from room to room. I would also make sure I had any meds I take on hand for at least a few days. Again good luck!

5-10 things you wished you had bought PreOp

I made this list when I started my journey. There is way too much on it but maybe it will give you some ideas. If you buy half of what is on it you bought too much.

I can't get the link to work but if you do a search for the tag or title you might be able to find it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
