Hi all! I was banded 2/25/09. I'm down @14lbs and I feel great. I'm still doing primarily soft foods (creamy Soups for the most part). I had a small salad for the first time this week and my stomach loved it. I feel like I can eat more food but I'm so nervous I would reverse the little bit of weight I've lost. My first fill is coming up on 3/30/09.

I didn't start really feeling restriction until 3 days ago, my 2nd fill.

You just have to be patient, it hardly ever works perfectly immediately after surgery.

1st give yourself time to heal, you may have swelling at the band site for a few weeks. Focus on eating properly and the right foods; how your lifestyle will be changing.

Don't get discouraged, Celebrate everything positive, ie. losing a pound or two and keeping it off, wearing something you couldn't for a while, feeling stonger, not eating that cookie when you could, etc.

Hang in there!

I am day 6 post-op. The hunger definitely has kicked in for me. The Protein Shake could only keep me off hunger for around 2-3 hours. After 2 hours I would start to crave for real food. I know I could have another Protein shake. But I am so tired of them right now, I can't bear to have an extra cup. I eat sugar free popcicles instead. But it doesn't take the entire hunger away.

I too have had no restriction. I have eaten anything I want so far.....and yes I know thats not good for my stomach. My love for food has taken control again. I have my first fill tomorrow so I hope this will help me get back to band land. That and I have been sick pretty much since my surgery with Pneumonia and a sinus infection. Good luck to all!

OMG! STOP eating solid food. The whole point of the liquid diet is so the band can heal into place. With liquids your stomach doesn't have to move to digest and the band can heal in place. If the stomach doesn't move the stomach grow a skin over the band. Eating too soon can lead to slippage. I never felt restriction and food would have gone down fine and maybe, just maybe I would have gotten away with it, but I have invested too much, & I am not talking about money, to risk my band.

I had my first check up after surgery yesterday and I am 2lbs away from being under 200lbs!!!! Woot Woot So excited about that! My doc said I was doing good and looked awesome! And i could start on mushies for the next 4 weeks...with NO sugar!!! He kept stressing No sugar No sugar..he said even with the band you will gain if you ahve sugar..and after my appt on the way home I'm thinking...ok What just happened? Did I become a diabetic some how, Did my Pancrease stop working??? It's Impossible Not to have ANY sugar, almost everything has some sugar in it. And i can't afford to go out and buy more food that's just SF. I just went to the store. I made Speggetti last night and the sause had 5g of sugar in the hole can so how can we cut out ALL sugar all the time I think he was beiung a little psyco on the sugar deal!!! So Im thinking If i limit myself to like 100g of sugar a day it should make things alright, Also he said I was ok to start working out!!!! So i went to the gym last night! Im excited about my journey so far!!! Any idea on the sugar thing...anyone wiht me on this?????

927, I know how you feel,I had my surgery on 1/19/09 and have only lost 6 lbs !!!I keep track of my calories, I walk,do yoga and wii fit everyday and nothing!! I am ready to shoot myself,I spent all my money on this surgery, almost died because of it and not losing weight. I hate to always be the "negative nancy" on here but can't believe some people can lose 40 lbs the 1st month, and some lose nothing.(scream!!!)

Hi Bella. Please don't get discouraged. It was six weeks from my surgery to the first fill - I lost 10 pounds. It was another 8 weeks from the first fill to the second - I lost 8 pounds. The second fill hit my sweet spot and I lost 64 pounds in the next 7 months! I made my goal one month before my bandiversary. All that said to help you keep your eyes on the prize. You can do it. I know it's hard not to compare yourself to others. I was lucky to hit my sweet spot so quickly, I know it takes others 4 - 8 visits. Good luck on your journey!

I had my surgery on 12/10- I did not feel too many restrictions till my 2nd fill I have lost 18 lbs so far, but biggest thing to change is not drinking with food, man is that hard, I was always drinking Water, before, after and during. I am getting better but still a struggle.

I agree with you. I just had my surgery on march 12th and I vowed to myself I would follow the doc's orders. I figured they know what their talking about, so just do it. I not trying to say it hasn't been a battle, I have been craving pizza something awful but Clear Liquids will have to be my pizza for now. Actually, I scared to mess up my surgery but I'm trying to look at it as a challenge. If I can hang on until mushies I'm doing good.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
