Banded on 03/09/09. Day 4 ...

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've been banded on 03/09/09. The first three days after the surgery was really hectic and difficult. I've been having a lot of gas pain. The gas bumps into different parts of my body and it has been painful. I've been gerping and farting, yet can't seem to get the gas out of my body. The pain medicine they gave me had a strong effect that it makes me dizzy all day long. I got a cold or flu before the surgery. This makes my recovery more complicated. After the surgery, my throat was so dry and sore and it was a terrible feeling. My nose was stuffy and every time when I cough, it pulls the muscle of the incision site and it hurts. Anyway, day 4 after the surgery. I am in a much better condition. Even though I still have lots of gas pain. It is much more tolerable than before. However, sometimes my stomach gets a tightening or pulling feeling, it feels like something is stuck in my stomach. I even feel a little nausea over it. Is this feeling normal? Before the surgery I lost total 16 pounds. After the surgery I lost additional 4 pounds. So here 20 pounds goes.

We might be twins. Our stats are similar and I got my band Mon. also. Yes the gas it a trip, but I don't have any pain at all so I'll take the gas. It woke me up Tues. from a dead sleep. I got up and walked about the house for about three minuets and was able to burp. I feel mine in two parts, at the top it shows if I have been sitting for a few minuets or twist left or right to quickly. The other just shows up and rules the house. Husband swears there is someone trapped inside because of the noise my tummy has been making. I feel really good and have been out every night for pool, I played Thurs. and won so I am still happy. Fluids at hospital put on an extra 7lbs that is slowly going down. I came down from 240 in Nov. to 218 day of surgery. Couple of those pounds were lost twice as I could not do this without a last dinner of Prime Rib!!! It was worth it! Gas-X is helping some and I get up to around about every 15-20 minuets. I had hoped that I would walk some everyday but it's cold here and I did something to my ankle the week before surgery and it is still swollen. Sip, Sip, Sip and WALK!

Niterun, we could be twins. We had the surgery on the same day and are both at the same BMI right now. LOL. It sounds like you have a lot of energy left after the surgery. I have been on the opposite. I feel sleepy all day long and I fee weak. I don't know if this "lacking of energy" is from my cold/flu or from not eating real food as before. Today is day 5 post op, but after I got up in the morning, I am still a little light headed and feeling weak. Hopefully I could go back to my normal self soon.

Today is my 5th day post op. Even though I've been sleeping a lot, I still feel very tired and weak. I talked to the nurse earlier and she said that if I'm taking less than 30 gram of carbs I would feel weak. I went to check the Protein Shake I've been taking. Max-protein only has 2 gram of carb per serving and Unjury only has 1 gram of carb. The diet guide denotes that we could also have sugar free Jello. Hover, the sugar free jell-o only has 2 gram of carb as well. On the other hand, the sugar free pudding has 6 gram of carb, plus the carb from the skim-milk, I could increase my carb intake to the required amount. Since this is my day 5 post op, does anyone know if sugar free pudding is okay to eat? Thanks.

I think the pudding should be ok I was told only things that would go through a straw, but don't use a straw. I made a yogurt smoothie with lthe low fat milk and a light yogurt. You can buy them ready made. I am mostly Carnation Instant Breakfast no surgar added and High Protein Slim Fast.

day 5-14 full liquids

day 15-24 mushie food

day 25 i could start reg food.< /p>

i wouldnt do pudding yet if it was me. stick with Soup with no solids in it. and fat free milk,etc...

i would start the pudding around day 14.

oh and those slim fast isnt good either. too much sugar in them.

best think to go by is no more then 5grams fat per serving and no more then 15 grams of carbs per serving also.

and walk all you can to get the gas gone.

High Protein has less sugar than their others. My doc was going with a high Protein - low carb diet for me which seemed to work well. I had clear for a few hours at the hosptial then full liquids for next 6 days. Mushies for 7 days then solids, intro-ed one at a time to check reactions. Protein is the focus for everything. I use the powders and mix with skim milk, can add powdered milk for extra protein or Protein powder (GeniSoy) is netural. Have some protein bullets I haven't tried yet.

if you got a GNC close to you. go to it and look at the smoothies that are just as good as the slim fast. but less sugar then the high protein ones. and also i buy the protein shooters from Walmart there are fruit punch taste and have 26 grams of protein in them. they are great. might be the same as the bullets you have, not sure.

on the liquid diet all dr's. are different. thats just the way i was told.

what band do you have?

I bought the "max protein" from GNC on the pre-op diet. Pretty expensive stuff - costs $35 per jar. It is high in Protein (24 gram per scope) and low in carb (2 gram per scope). However, I do not like the taste at all. Has anyone heard of it?

I couldn't decided on which band to use so I left the decision into my doctor's hand. I asked him to pick the one that best fits my anatomy. He finally picked the realize band for me.

Today is kind of discouraging though. Even though I only had three Protein shakes, half cup of milk and 5 bites of sugar free pudding yesterday, I only lost half pound today. I see people on the board are losing at least 10 pounds each week on the post-op liquid diet. I have only lost 5.5 pounds for 6 days post-op.

dont feel that way. not everyone lose weight the same. where i lost 21 pound my first ten days, but i got freins that just lost 4-10 pounds in the sametime. so you are doing great. we didnt get over weight over night so its going to go away over night.

are you drinking alot of Water if not try that. just sip on it all day long. you can also try eat sugar free popcicles and sugar free Jello.

keep us posted

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
