Really Need Your Advice

Thursday for dinner I decided to try low fat hot dogs with slaw, I felt kind of crappy after I ate but it wasn't horrid. During the night I woke up a few times with my stomach hurting, since then it hasn't stopped hurting. I haven't done any exercise other than a super short speed walk which I really wasn't up to since I ate the weiner and slaw. I know people say cabbage can be very gaseous but this seems more. I was banded 1/23/09 and am 8 days from my first fill. My port area feels fine when I touch, theres no pain. The pain comes from taking deep breaths and swallowing along with the occasional discomfort that comes and goes pretty fast. I should add I am lousy at getting rid of gas, I burp internally, it doesn't make its wait out just like a hiccup but its a burp that doesn't make it above the start of neck if it gets that far. Those are painful more so now than before when I talked to my dr about them. He said air got trapped behind and would eventually disapate. My drs in surgery on Mondays, I want to believe this is gas and I should never eat weiners or slaw again. Just looking for opinions. Thanks in advance

i can eat cole slaw just fine no problem but i have never eaten hot dog since my surgery - did you eat it with a bun or by itself? hot dog meat is intestinal food maybe its just not a good meat to have with this band.

Do you still have your Gallbladder? You may be having symptoms of impending problems. Good luck.

Mimi

Yes I do.....they ran some tests about a year ago or so and decided I had IBS but didn't tell me anything

I know over the time I have been banded, there have been a couple of meals that just messed with me for several days. I have since learned to take it easy and go for a couple of days of liquids/mushies if I still feel bad the next day or two. I have found that one such food for me is corn on the cob. It doesnt get stuck going down but I feel really crappy for a couple of days after. I can eat hot dogs and slaw with no issue.

I hope you are feeling better by now.

Thanks for all your posts, the way I was feeling did finally pass and I was so glad. I doubt that I will want to try a hot dog or slaw again for awhile. I'm about 7 weeks out and haven't had my first fill yet its Monday afternoon, but it seems strange to me I've already dealt with PB and have a lot of restriction. I was telling my DH I can't imagine eating less than 4 ounces which is all I can tolerate right now. I guess I'll find out next week

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
