HOw long did it take to have a bm after surgery?

Recommended Posts

*I know this question is a little gross and personal but I would really appreciate your honesty. I am 4 days post-op and have not had a BM yet. I knew it would take a while after surgery b/c of the anistesha and everything...and us not eating very much. I am taking my stool softeners just waiting around for it to happen!!! So how long after your surgery did it take you???

*Also I'm eating more then I thought I would be able to. I can eat a bout a 1/2 a cup maybe a cup at one time. Is this normal?? My surgeon just put a little saline in my band not a lot. So I don't have much restriction. How much can you eat at one time?

*Any good Soup Ideas??? So far I'm eating Cream of chicken which I'm about burnt out on... Vegetable Soup i put it in the blender...and thats it. Everything else is Jello, pudding, apple sauce, and popcycles. And Ideas would be great!!

Thanks

Hey there! First congrats on being banded. As for the BM it took almost a week for me to have one. I wouldn't get too worried unless its going on two weeks and if that happens you need to call your doctor. As for Soup ideas.... I basically did the same as you. My husband made chicken and cream of chicken soup and blended up really good and that was a little more filling. I started of eating about 1/4 cup and 1/2 cup of food. As the swelling goes down in your stomach you will be able to eat more but you have to be careful and make good food choices. When I went onto mushies I gained 3-4lbs back mainly b/c I made one bad food choice and I feel like I can eat more. I don't want you to make the same mistake. I hope that helps and keep in touch!

Thanks asleyb, how much Protein is in?

with a cup of skim milk and the mix, it's 13 grams in the 8 oz. if you are looking for something higher, I found egg whites, it's right next to the egg beaters in the refridgerated section of the grocery. it's in a carton just like egg beaters. for every 3 tablespoons, it is 5 grams of protein. i have been adding 6 tablespoons to my milk and caranation mix, making each drink 23 grams of protein. you CANNOT taste the eggwhite at all! it still taste like chocolate milk!

Don't worry too much about the bm, as long as you are passing gas and not feeling constipated or bloated.

For Protein, I really like the whey protein 'Body Fortress' from Wal-Mart add skim milk and its like 30 grams per serving. You can also get benefiber (odorless, tasteless) it adds 6gms to anything, Soup, yogurt, protein drinks, etc.

Here's a yummy "soup" idea I've used every day this week. If you love Mexican food like I do: half cup refried Beans, half cup beef broth, a dab of sour cream and a tablespoon of shredded cheese. Run it thru the food processor and heat it up. I love it! It's hi Protein, lo fat and yummy.

Good luck with the b.m.!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
