I am in the beginning stages of the lap band procedure. My husband is very cautious and is wanting all kinds of information. I am hoping that this forum will help with that!

Thank you for letting me join

This is the best place to come. Also, be sure to take everything you read here with a grain of salt. We're just people so sometimes you'll see us at our best and sometimes at our worst. Good luck with everything.

Reeba~ This is a great place to get information! My husband was very skeptical before I had the procedure too. He went with me to all of the meetings and appointments so he was able to ask questions and have them answered.

After the info meeting he was on board and ready to move forward in the process with me. This has been huge! You really need the support from those around you.

Good luck!

My husband is an RN who worked in a "GI" lab for years and was adamantly AGAINST the band, because of all the issues he saw relating to bypass (roux en Y) surgery. Once he went with me to a seminar (and spent about 30 minutes discussing the surgery etc with my surgeon who bless him seemed interested and willing to chat for hours!) he was totally on board, supportive, and enthusiastic. My husband was wary because of the medical risks he thought were there. So if your husband is cautious because of that, maybe a seminar etc can help? There are also some good books on the marked...half price books or your library (or amazon!) can help you there. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
