Fill+Restriction=2-3wks later:

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if anyone else or how typical it is that after you get a fill you don't notice restriction immediately it is more like 2-3 weeks later? I am in this boat. I mentioned this to my dr yesterday and he said that I am a perfect example of why he is so conservative with his fills because if you don't notice restriction immediately and then get another fill and get restrictions week later it can be too much.

So anyone else in this boat? Or am I paddling alone?

Maranda :)

I don't have delayed restriction but I DO have a very conservative surgeon. I was banded 8/29 and just got my 5th fill bringing me to 6.25 cc in a 14 cc band. There are two opposing ideas about this; some think aggressive fills are the way to go, some think they set you up for problems down the road. Either way, I think my surgeon (and his staff) is a great one, and I trust him, and I am FINALLY starting to lose again. Since I do NOT want to ever be so tight that I can't eat most foods, can't swallow my own saliva at times, etc, and since that has never happened to me (I can still eat bread...I don't usually because it's a pain but I can do it) I am pleased now that he's taken his time.

I have this situation. My doc says it happens. That's why they wait a month between fills. I got a fill bringing me up to 5cc in a 10cc band on 2-16-09. I started feeling some restriction this week. Two weeks after getting a fill. It was very interesting. Good luck to you.

I got my last fill .2 CC on February 3rd and immediately lost the ability to eat Breakfast. Now 4 weeks later I have suddenly lost all ability to eat meat. Thought I was at my sweet spot because I was losing weight and eating well until now. Have an appt today to talk to my doctor. Don't really want any fill removed but I sure miss eating meat. :cursing:

I know exactly what you are going through. Thought I was crazy. I had my fil Jan 28th and didn't have restriction until last week right before I got another fill. Strange how that works.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
