Dr. Atkinson & Dr. Soong

Recommended Posts

I live in Las Vegas and does anyone have any info on these two doctors? And who would be the best choice.

Dr. Atkinson did my surgery. It went very well and I am happy with his work. However, I was told at a support meeting that Dr. Soong is amazing with follow-up care...

Dr. Atkinson was my surgeon but from everything that I've heard, they perform the surgery together....one assisting the other. Dr. Soong did come to see me the day following the surgery. I haven't seen Dr. Atkinson at all except for the actual day of surgery.

I had my surgery with Dr. Soong on March 3rd, 2009. He was great. And don't let the North Vista Hospital worry you all the staff there were awesome!

Thank you so much for the info. I'm most likely going to see if Dr. Soong can do the procedure.

:) I had Dr. Soong do my surgery back in Sept of 08! I am very pleased with my decision to have him be my doctor. I loved the fact that he gave me his email and was available to answer all of my questions in those first few days after. He was very encouraging and would respond within 24 hours! Good Luck to you in your decision and your journey!:)

I went to their program and I would not recommend their program. You see the physicians assistant after surgery. You rarely get to see the doctor. And the support staff is very disorganized. I instead went with Dr Teng. He has not lost a patient , no post surgical infections and no slippage.

I have done my research. There's also another doctor off of Durango that is not very knowledgeable. He was calling another doctor to ask how to adjust a band. I finally asked him how many surgeries he has done--only 5 total.

Please do your research and pick the best doctor that is comprehensive.

Dr. Soong did my surgery and I am very happy with him. I saw him after my surgery and he also attends the monthy support meetings. I have found the staff very helpful and have had no problems with anyone.

I believe Dr Soong is only in the office on Mondays. The rest of the week is staffed with PA's in the office. I never was Ever able to meet up with Dr Atkinson nor would the fills be done by him as well.

I don't have any personal experience with these two doctors. I called their office this monday to request a consultation, since their website says to call for a consultation or to reserve a spot at their seminar. I have already had been banded and unbanded and did not want to go to the seminar. So, I said to the "operator" in their call center that I wanted to schedule a consultation. They said they would have to take my number and call me back, because they can't just schedule a consultation. That was Monday and as of Wednesday night, I have not gotten a call back.

What number are you calling?

I called the number on the site. I think it was 384-thin, and I spoke with their office rep, so it was definitely not a wrong number. They finally called me on Friday. In my line of work, I call people back with 4 hours, not 4 days, so that was disappointing. I am hopeful though, because they were helpful when they finally did call.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
