weight stall....what am I doing wrong?

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I was Banded Sept.30th 2008. I've lost about 40 pounds since the surgery, but I have about 65-70 to go to get to my goal weight. I'm excited about my weight loss, don't get me wrong....but I've stalled here at 199.....I've been stalled here for about 3 weeks. I don't understand. I workout with a trainer 3 -4 times a week, I try to stay active in my life, I don't eat sugar, pastas, breads, or potatoes. My only weakness is mayo with my meats. It makes it go down better, but at this point, I'm about ready to stop eating all together. I'm honestly at my wit's end right now.....can anyone help me? It's like it doesn't matter how hard I'm trying. Help!!!!!!

Plateaus are a normal part of weight loss, you're not doing anything wrong. In fact it sounds like you're doing everything right, you just need to be patient.

How many calories are you taking in everyday? Are you drinking enough? If youre not getting enough of either it can cause wt loss to stop

Change things up a bit sometimes that helps

Okay....thanks guys!

I'm usually getting anywhere between 700- 1200 calories a day, depending on the day. I try to eat lots of fruits and veggies, and I drink 5-9 glasses of Water a day, along with coffee and tea. Everything is no sugar added or sugar free. I guess I'll just wait it out, I just hope it speeds up soon. =)

The fewer cals I eat, the slower my loss. I have to force myself to get in 1200 cals a day, and I am not exercising. Escpecially because you are working out, you should stay between 1200-1500 calories a day- and then you should start loosing again. You will probably plateua again, the body has this natural reaction. When this happens, go down to 1000-1200 calories, etc. Keep your body guessing by changing things up. I know more cals sound counter productive, but as long as they are Proteins and veggies- the more fuel, the more burn. Do NOT go below 1000 cals or the body goes in to starvation mode...

What about a little calorie cycling? I've read good things about increasing your calories by about 500 for one day and the next day reducing them about 500 under your normal. Jump start your metabolism back in action. Or you could try the 5 day pouch test.

Keep us posted. I'd be interested in hearing what works for you.

I agree with everyone else on here about keeping your body quessing. I also seen that changing your workout will help as with getting your body out a stall. does your trainer know that you are not losing right now? They might need to change your workout. Like if you are on the treadmill, try to walk longer or up hill, or do a few burst of running during your walk. same thing work if your are riding a stationary bike. if you are lifting weight maybe lower your lbs but increase your reps. hope the info help..i am doing the same right now and started to lose weight again...good luck

I agree with the other posters. You need to mix it up. Our bodies get use to a routine. I know people say calories in and calories burned equals weight loss. But sometimes, when I eat more, I lose weight. Crazy but true.

Thanks guys, I'm trying the more cals one day then less the next. I'm also signing up for a yoga class, and a hiking club in my area. Maybe if I mix my activity up too it will help me lose weight again. =)

Thanks again everyone!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
