Hey Jen, it sounds like we will have the same date: April 16th! I just got word from insurance on March 10 that I was approved and I am so happy to now have a date. I go for pre-op visit on 3-31-09. Does anyone know what is involved at that visit? Do they just tell you what you can eat the weeks before surgery? Anyway, I'm now an April Bandster! Soo happy!

Congratulations Peggy. I got my apporval on March 9th...LOL. We can compare notes on how we do. I just found out the other day that my doc requires an overnight stay at the hospital which I was not expecting but oh-well as long as I get my band and everything is Ok I will be happy. And I think on the pre-op apt you will get info on pre and post surgery diets. I had my pre-op apt then found out that they did me too early b/c you have to see the surgeon w/in 30 days of the surgery so I have to go back again the week before surgery. I am lucky in that I do not have to do an all iquid diet pre-op, just low calorie high Protein diet. but now I have to do another dumb sleep study and I am not happy about that :scared2:. I already know I have sleep apnea from a previous sleep study done 3 years ago, but I never followed up to do the second one to test with the cpap because I knew I was not going to wear it. But the pulmonologist says nope got to do another one :crying:. Oh well I will get thru it.

Jen

Hello again fellow bandsters

I am a little worried about something and thought I'd ask the group. In reading through all these posts, and many more it seems like I have gone through a completely different process and I'd like your thoughts. I weight 180 and want to get to 120 or 130. My BMI is 33. I have never met my doctor - I had a twenty minute conversation with him on the phone. I had a five minute conversation with the RN. He has a great reputation here (Toronto) but I find it odd that the first time I'll meet him will be the day of surgery which is April 1st. I have received my liquid stuff and start it this coming Wed., I also have to do blood work, ECG and have my family doctor fill out forms. The cost in Ontario is $16,000 - our health care system only pays for certain folks and I do not come close to qualifying - it is very difficult to quality here. Do any of you think this is odd that I haven't actually met the doctor in person? I suppose if you are flying to your surgery you wouldn't necessarily have met either. Perhaps I am just paranoid?

Enjoy your Saturday - I am having a dinner party with lots of goodies - figure I'd go out in style.

I finally got my date, April 27th!!! After 2 months of trying to reach the scheduler at my Drs office!! That kinda irritates me, but the joy of receiving a date finally is overshadowing that.

Good to meet you fellow Bunnies! I need to figure out this ticker business and get myself one :)

OK, Learning more and liking it better! Just found out that there is no liquid diet required for pre-surgery for me. Have to follow an "atkins" type diet for two weeks prior and nothing to eat or drink 12 hrs. prior to surgery. :)

Yep - BUNNY Bandsters

(I like it)

Birthday party today and it'll be my goodbye to wine day.

Bread is in the oven (my specialty)

so it's also goodbye to bread day.

Peanut butter and apples has been my addiction for the last several months - one jar left and a basket of Fuji apples.

Goodbye to PB after the jar is empty and the apples will be pureed soon.

The sun is back - the daffodils are up - the leaves will return soon.

This is my focus/pleasant distraction while I prepare for the change and heal.

(Gawd - I'm sounding like my old 70s self! -

and that's a GOOD thing)

Weigh-in on Wednesday followed by a LB support meeting.

I'm hovering at 200 - hopefully this will be the last time to move that dastardly weight thingie over a notch!

I think it is neat that we have a SPRING date and and a new beginning on life with our lapbands. I could use some daffadils here, maybe I will buy some to remind me of this awesome journey ahead.

Sissy, thanks for organizing a chart with our dates. It is kind of cool to see (in one place) when all of our surgeries are. :)

I made a little banner for our "group"

See below VVVV "bunny bandsters"

If you like it the way it is -

go to this link and copy the Bulletin Board (1) code (near the bottom on the right)

go to your control panel (CP) and then "edit your signature" and paste the code at the bottom (or top) of your editable signature info.

Save and that should do it.

If you don't like this font or color or words - I'll fix it.

The code generator is SPARKLEE.com if you'd rather design your own.

(I have to work on my breads now - be back later today)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
