Dr. Ken Hollis in Houston, TX

Recommended Posts

Hi lovely. Welcome to LBT!! And boy did you choose well!!! I had my surgery done by Dr. Hollis - and he is awesome!!! I live in Albuquerque New Mexico and no one here does lapband surgery. Somehow my path lead me to Houston, to True Results, and to Dr. Hollis. The surgery center is beautiful and state-of-the-art. Every one of my fills has been done fluoroscopically and without even a minor problem. Their surgeons are renowned specialists in bariatric health care. Dr. Hollis has very impressive credentials, he's very nice, and very compassionate. The staff at True Results has also been wonderful!! From the minute I met Dr. Hollis, I knew I had made a great decision. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to send me a message. Good luck to you!!!! Becky

When are you having your surgery? Ken Hollis is my surgeon as well. I haven't met him yet - I'm on number 5 out of 6 weight loss visits so far for my insurance. Do you live in the houston area? I live in Sugar land. I'm just trying to find inspiration on these sites that I'm making the right decision.

I'm hoping to have my procedure in August. I have six WLV as well. I'm working on number three right now.

I live in the Houston area on the North side of town. Are you going through True Results?

Yes, I'm going through True Results. I have my 5th visit on Friday so I'm on my way. I figure May because I'll have to actually meet the surgeon and wait for insurance final approval. I think that's the only part of this process that I don't really like - I went to another dr's seminar but he's only doing surgery in Dallas now so they switched me to dr hollis. On a positive note, I've read good things about him so far though.

The only nice thing I can say is that the True Results staff are great. You will see Dr Hollis about 5 minutes before the surgery for a preop visit. He will say Hi at the hospital and you most likely will never see him again. So that is why it is great to have the other staff to fall back on. Make sure to get quotes for not just the lapband but also for Hiatal Hernia repair which is done with a lot of surgeries from what I hear and experienced. You will have to pay the extra money immediately if you have this done or you will not be able to get fills done. I love the staff at the Greenpark facility. They are great.

I have read great things about Dr. Hollis and his staff; however, I have not found that to be true. I am constantly calling them about appointments. I've gone to their offices twice only to have to reschedule becuase the equipment is down. I was rescheduled for 3/6 only to get a call that something else had gone wrong with their equipment -- which their first call to me that something was wrong.... I'm giving up ---- gonna switch facilities. Just to much uncertainty.... Good luck everyone!

Hi Mutti471975,

I'm very sorry to here that your experience with True Results and Dr. Hollis wasn't to your expectations. I wish you much luck with your new facility. My experience was a Good One.

I Had my surgery done by Dr. Hollis 3 days ago on March 30th. And I am using True Results as well. I have nothing but Great things to say about everyone I have come in contact with at True Results! What a Wonderful group of individuals! Of coarse the ground was set when the first person I had contact with was Cindy Canino! I cannot say enough kind words about her!!! Her knowledge, experience and enthusiasm is such a great comfort during what can be a scary and stressful time! I'm so Happy that I chose True Results and Dr. Ken Hollis!

Dr Hollis did a hernia repair for my hubby about 11yrs ago...long before the WLS boom at that time he was just a general surgeon. I know my sweetie didn't have any problems and Dr Hollis is an excellent surgeon.

All that being said, if you aren't happy with the care that you have recieved up until now and aren't yet banded I would seriously consider looking for another facility. This is a long process and you need to have a support sysem that YOU feel confident in....Please hear me loud and clear...I AM NOT SAYING ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT DR HOLLIS OR THE TRUERESULTS FACILITY OR STAFF....only saying if your not happy look elsewhere.....

I had my band with Dr Robert Marvin. I LOVE him and his staff. If you are considering another facility I would highly recommend him.

Good luck to you, I hope you are able to find the support that YOU need.

I had my surgery a year ago but Dr Hollis!! He was great even though I only met him the day of surgery and my first visit afterwards. You can request to see him for your fills but your appts will be harder to make.

I also had to go through the six month of counseling. I can say now that I truely do appreciate having to go through that as it has tremendoulsy helped me out for the aftermath of the surgery. Didnt like the idea of having to wait but if you are seeing Kristen at True Results listen to her she knows her stuff! All of the personal there have been GREAT!!Good Luck!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
