15 lbs since Monday?! Wow, that's great - what does your doctor have you doing?

Keep it up, you're doing great!

My Doc has had me on a liquid diet and Protein shakes. That's about it. I have been walking ALOT, even in the middle of the night when I am sick of laying on my back, I will walk through the house several times. I know it will slow down eventually, but I will for sure take that 15 lbs right now!

You know, walking really is great. I always despised it before - when I used to smoke. Now that I've quit smoking, I find walking a great stress relief!

Best wishes to you!

Don't worry! My doctor has me on full liquids for the first 2 weeks as well. I myself have become a little worried that I am not drinking enough. I was never really into drinking a lot anyways so this is hard for me. I found if I mix the Mango nectar Isopure with Orange juice and Water it taste way better!

I love looking around on this website! I have found some really helpful suggestions and some really funny post as well.

Can anyone sleep on their side yet? I can lay on my side for less than a minute before I start to have a little bit of pain.

This is my first surgery so I might just be a big baby. Has anyone's incisions completely quit hurting? I know we are only on day 6 post op but once my pain goes away I can get on the move again! Any suggestions? Does Walking more help?

Sounds like everyone is doing well, I am on the two weeks liquid as well. I lost a lot the first couple of days, I think it was Water weight since I have held my own for the pas couple of days. Still not hungry, not at all not a minute. Watching food Network does not even do it. But I am drinking Protein Shakes and broth, still not getting enough but it is getting better. The only issues I have is I am cold all the time, smell everything, and my back hurts. Everything else is good. Thanks all.

I just read some of the posts and thought the same thing, regular food less than a week out?? I'm still on Clear Liquids and will start regular liquids tomarow. No offense to anyone I was just surprised to see that. I still feel so full that I don't know if I could eat if I tried. Maybe I will be one of the lucky ones that can go quite awhile without a fill.

It is so good to see that everyone is doing good. I having been walking, walking, walking!! If I sit for too long I can definatly feel the air buildup in my tummy.

So far Im very happy with the results Im down 10 lbs. Im happy to have the surgery part behind me and now onto the real work.

Good luck everyone, Bernadette

I have been able to sleep on my side and also a little on my stomach. I really only have pain when getting up from the recliner, also have some pain in shoulders and back when I go out for a walk. I guess that I am lucky.

Glad to know that others are on the just liquid diet. I will be glad when I can go to soft foods, but that is not until Saturday the 28th. Just need the strength to make it that long. I wish that I wasn't hungry....but I have had 2 hard days but at least is isn't every day. I have lost 19.5 pounds since I started my pre-op diet on 3/2 and am so thankful.

Everyone stay on track and remember our long term goals. (I thought if I typed it, it would help me over these hunger pains!)

Hi everyone

Just wanted to check in on the 16thers!! Im still feeling good but soo bloated, the only way I can describe it is to say it feels like you do after thanksgiving dinner and it is so uncomfortable that you almost feel sick. I don't know if that makes any since at all but that is how my tummy feels all of the time. I don't have trouble passing gas but I have only had one BM, sorry I know that is really personal. I think that is why my tummy feels this way. I have tried laxatives and no help. If anyoone has any suggestions I would love to her them. Thanks, Bernadette:ohmy:

Be careful with the laxatives that was something that I was warned against and to only use a stool softener. The bloating may be from the swelling. Are you walking? Hope it all gets better soon

Hi Greginir

Im feeling a little frustrated at this point, I have tried everything laxatives, stool softeners Im not sure what else to try. Maybe it is just the swelling still. I just wish what ever it was it would end soon.

How are you doing? Are you feeling good? getting around okay? I go back to work tomarow and Im a little worried. I have just a little pain at the port site.

Take care, Bernadette

Bernadette - For what its worth, you're not alone. :frown: Hang in there!

Re: liquids vs "real" foods - I probably failed to mention they are purees. While its not quite as exciting as it may have sounded, I will admit its nice to have the variety. The bad news is I'm not losing the pace I was on the liquid, preop diet.

I'm sooo jealous of those who can sleep on their side or stomach! Ahhh, how I long for that. I'm still sleeping on our recliner because I simply cannot get comfortable in bed.

I'm happy to report, tho, that every day it gets better. We're only a week post op and most are reporting they generally feel good - which is awesome! On the flip side, WE ARE A WEEK POST OP! How exciting is that!

When's everyone's first fill scheduled?

Good Morning!

I think most of us might be heading back to work today! Be careful not to overdo anything. We have to be careful for the next 5 weeks to avoid any slippage of our bands. Just keep it in mind.

I feel pretty good today. I'm looking forward to only a week more of liquids only, the countdown is on! I am jealous of the people sleeping on their sides!! It has been impossible for me to get any good rest because I am a side sleeper. I am getting so little sleep I might as well have had a newborn baby in the house.

Have a good day my fellow lucky losers!!

Fab by 50 you should not be frustrated, first think about it have you really eaten anything to poop? You may be blessed that you did not have the chronic "D" some people have. I still have a swollen bloated stomach and it is much more in the evening than the morning. Other than the fact I still can't sleep over a couple of hours I guess I am doing well. I am not going back to work today, need more time I think because of the hernia surgery. I may go back next week. Keep the faith.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
