Hi, Everyone!

I'm so excited to have found ya'll (from Ohio, near Kentucky - LOL).

Had my nutrition class today and am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Curry on March 16. Starting the preop diet on 3/9, following an out of town weekend when which I intend to eat whatever I want!!! Is that bad???? Please, please, please share any negatives - otherwise, this is my plan. LOL!

What else can I share? I weigh....OMG cannot believe I'm going to type this....256...and my initial goal weight is 170, although I really want to get down to 150. I don't believe I've been there since...grade school. Ouch. :)

Anyway, looking forward to "meeting" you all and wish everyone the best of luck!!!

I'm on the second week of my liquid diet. I would really like to chew something, anything. However, I do have a Protein shake recommendation that I got at a health foods store. It's a brand called Spirotein and comes in a variety of flavors. My store had sample packs which is nice so you can try a flavor out before buying a huge tin of it. There's a thickener in this brand so the shakes are more like a real milkshake and not too watery. My favorite by far is the Cookies and Cream and contains 15 g of Protein in each 8oz serving. I have to be on liquids for two weeks post-op as well so I bought a large size of it. Another thing that my pre-op diet allows is Greek yogurt which is also found at the health foods store. I am T-minus 3.5 days until surgery and can't wait!

Good luck to all the Lucky Losers!

Hi Everyone,

I'm scheduled for the 16th too! - Greensboro NC, Dr. Hoxworth.

I started the modified fast diet from nutritionist on Wednesday of this week. I've already lost 8 lbs in three days. It consist of a shake for breakfast; 3oz lean meat, 2 cups salad greens and 1/2 cup vegetables with fat free dressing-- that's lunch; a shake for snack at 4:00; dinner same as lunch and a shake for snack 3 hours after dinner.< img src="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/default_rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

I'm finding it hard to get it all in.

Anyway, good luck to all of you lucky losers. We '09 March bandsters will have some great stories to tell

WooHoo! Mine is on March 16th too!! It's so awesome to finally find some others on here with the same date! =D

My Surgery is with Dr. Monash in Tucson, Az. I am so ready to do this and at the same time, I'm nervous as heck! Which is natural I guess. I'm not on a Pre Op Diet cuz my doc doesn't believe in having to do that. However, I took it upon myself to cut down on my food, just to be safe. I wish you all the best of luck and maybe all of us who are having surgery on the 16th can compare our outcomes together! It could be fun and motivating! =) God Bless!!

I'm pretty much doing the same thing this weekend. Laundry, shopping, cleaning and church. That about sums up my weekend - every weekend. With my job, it's impossible to get any chores and shopping done around the house, so my weekends always consist of getting stuff done and ready for the next week. I think at this point I'm looking more forward to the week I'm taking off of work then the actual surgery! I'm sure on Monday morning I'll be pretty nervous!

Best wishes to everyone else getting banded on Monday!

See you on the other side!

I'm spending the weekend wearing a hospital band!! It's so annoying! I went in on Friday for all my Pre op testing and they told me to wear it til Monday and not to get it wet. Hubby has been teasing me all weekend so far, saying that I'm on leave from the looney bin and he has to take me back soon. Lmao! But yeah, I've stocked my pantry and fridge with the necessarys. Got all my laundry done and stuff. Basically, we have been staying away from the house to keep busy and keep my mind off of it. Good luck to you all and may you have a blessed speedy recovery!! =)

Sorry I've been MIA. We went to a St Patty's parade this morning, which was fun - kids had a blast! Getting a massage this afternoon with my Valentine's day gift cert - yay! Tomorrow is open - probably visiting the ILs, going grocery shopping, cleaning - FUN STUFF! LOL.

I fortunately only had to do the preop diet for one week, and it hasn't been too bad. I've grown to despise most of the foods out of boredom and am sooooo excited for pureeds - VARIETY - in just a couple days! I'm down 10 pounds in the 5 days so far, so thats pretty exciting...and motivating!

I can manage to get myself in a tiz if I analyze the surgery too much, but mostly I'm just ready for Monday morning!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
