1 week post op..and i am confused

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 10 Feb and I am feeling great. I have a throbbing once in awhile, but nothing that I can not live with. I am still on liquids for another week then start the mushies. I think that sore feeling around the port is normal it seems we are all going through it. If you are concerned that something is wrong, please call your doctor. I am sure they will not be upset and they have heard it all before. I even had my 70 pound puppy jump in my lap lastnight and I did not feel hurt by it. I get hungry once in awhile, but then you have to remember that this is a new journey and you have to retrain your thinking about food. Your relationship with food needs to change. I also find that if I drink something, crystal light or something, it helps. Best of luck!

Hello, I got banded on the 13th & was on liquids for 5 days before asking doctor if I can eat something because I was hungry for real food. he said soft stuff, yogurt, applesauce, pureed cooked broccoli or cauliflower whipeed up refried Beans, cottage cheese plus other things. it helped with hinger pains & no issues so far. He said as long as you can eat it withought getting nautious or vomiting, it's fine. It's been 11 days since surgery & today at my followup he said I can eat anything I wasnt now, just eat only 1/2 cup at a time, and chew it very very well. Don't drink high calorie drinks either, so diet gatorade, diet juice or Water is good. Good luck to everyone!! Iv'e lost 12 lbs, and feel better already.

I was supposed to be on Clear Liquids for two weeks but I was not feeling healthy and had no energy.

I went ahead and started having carnation instant breakfasts (normal ones) twice a day and one Protein shake a day. I also have some chicken or veggie broth. I drink diluted white grape juice, tea, coffee and Water.

So far so good. I have not felt hungry or weak. I plan to get creative with Soups next week. Can't wait to get some fresh veggies and get to cooking!

Finally, day 8 (1 week post op) I'm finally feeling almost 100% like myself! I was getting worried. I guess since I've started eating thicker liquids, like cream of mushroom and Soups I am getting some more Vitamins into my body. I hope I continue to improve every day, because I was starting to feel some regrets.

I was week for the first month, and sometimes I still get that way if I forget my Vitamins. I am 11 weeks post op, and the pain thing gradually went away by 8 weeks (unless you do something new exercise wise that changes it).

It didn't matter what mushies or solids I was eating, I was still weak. It wasn't what, it was how many calories. If I eat under 1000- no matter what- I feel crappy. I try to have 1200-1300 a day- I still loose (about 1/4lb- 1/2 lb a day...) so that is ok for me.

Okay, I officially got burnt out today. Could not eat another serving of mashed potatoes or yogurt or jell-o. I was HUNGRY and weak.

My hubby took me to our local grocery store. They have a wonderful Soup bar. I found some delicious tortilla soup. 1.5 grams of fat per serving and 13 grams of protien!! I was in heaven!! No big chunks to worry about, and flavor, flavor, flavor!!! I feel like a new woman!!

Hugs,

Shelly

I had my surgery om 12/01/08. I can totally relate to the pain. When I went out to take my walks my port area would feel like it was going to bounce out! I tightened up my binder & sometimes even held the port area, but it went away & all is well. Hang in there, you'll be eating a little bit of anything pretty soon. Get yourself an extra Protein Shake or two, you'll find if you get enough protien & calories and make yourself walk your energy will come back. Good luck

thanks for all the well wishers. i am 9 days out and doing alot better, but my brain and body are still out of sync. it's hard to retrain your brain not to take a big bite and swallow. i absolutely could not go on w/just liquids so i have started puree early. i am eating about 1200 cals now and have more energy. i went back to work last w/e and that was too soon. i would recommend at least 7 days off. the pounds are falling off. 8 pounds in 9 days. PRAISE THE LORD

I've been exhausted, which is probably because I'm having problems with the Protein drinks. I'm only allowed whey Protein and the stuff I have smells and tastes terrible. I thought it was going to be better than it is. I've been looking all over for something better and bought some whey Protein Shots. I hope they do the trick. I do have to nap everyday by the afternoon, because I feel exhausted by the afternoon. And I drink a TON of liquids.

And I guess I'm lucky too. I have three weeks off from work. (I'm a college student who has a work program where instead of classes, we work for 6 months, so I was able to take off).

I like everyone else deals with the port soreness. It does get a little better every day. I was banded this past Tuesday. The belching is non-stop, gas x or not, but not painful now. My legs/calves are sore. I have been walking a lot in the house to relieve gas. But besides feeling like I did a thousand sit ups it feels like I walked several miles. Even my thighs are sore. Could this be the up and down I do from sitting to standing? I don't feel weak. I am blending real Soups for nutrition and that keeps me satisfied along with other liquids. Luckily I have two weeks off for this surgery. I don't think I could contain the gas to go back this week.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
