I have found a Dr. by the name of Maher. He has done approx. 50 Band surgeries. I am very nervous about this. I have friends that have had bybass surg. this is a little extreme for me. I am 36 yrs old and want to get my life back!! I hope when all is said and done the gratification will override the nervousness.:phanvan

Thanks,

Lisa

I live right outside of Richmond. I have decided to go with a Mexican Doctor since I have no insurance. I too was looking for a local Dr. for aftercare. None of these local Drs. want to touch me with a ten foot stick if I get banded in Mx. So for me, I will be going back to Mexico for my aftercare. Let me know if you find out anything different.

Hi Lisa,

I live in SW Virginia and I was the second one my doctor did. Of course I was lucky because he had an experienced surgeon come that day to assist because it was his first solo. I felt lucky to be in that group.

I was just banded by his father, Robert Pinnar on the 9th! He was great, just love him! Still recovering, but have lost 16 pounds in two weeks (one week pre-op liquid, then recovery)! The father/son practice is in Reston in the same building as Reston Hospital..think about it!

Our research turned us on to Dr. Gregory Schroder. He has done many procedures, is listed as one of the best doctors in Richmond and his surgical group are certified lapband specialist. Surgery for me is on Sept. 21, 2006 and I have been very pleased with the education and support this surgical group has given us. His phone # is 285-4133 and his office is at St. Mary's Hospital. Good luck.

Hi Lisa,

I haven't had my surgery yet but I went to a seminar at St. Mary's hospital in Richmond yesterday. The group is Richmond Surgical Group. They are a Center of Excellence and do more bands in Va. than anyone else. I was very impressed by Dr. Bregman who gave the seminar. He said he had done 700 bands himself and says that the proceedure takes about 30 minutes or less. He was recommended by Suzanne, another member of Lapband Talk. I have my initial appointment with him on Monday and am really excited. :lovechoc:

If you woukd like to find out more about Dr. Bregman his number is 804-285-4133.

Good luck to you and maybe we will run into each other.

Linda

Lisa, I was banded on 7/17 by Dr. Brengman at St. Mary's in Richmond. He and Dr. Schroder are in the same group and both come highly recommended. Their group is wonderful: great support, lots of info, great surgeons. The St. Mary's surgical staff was also wonderful. My surgery went great and I am looking forward to my second fill. Good luck!! Hi.

I was banded by Dr. Maher on 11/5/08 and I couldn't be happier. Dr. Maher and his staff are an excellent group to work with. I originally had consulted with another group in Richmond but chose Dr. Maher for several reasons - the MCV Obesity Center is designated as a Center of Excellence and that was very important to me. As to the statement that Dr. Maher has only done 50 - well, I believe that is inaccurate. I like the fact that Dr. Maher believes in helping people and stresses the importance of following the rules of the band if it's going to work. Including the 2 week pre-op liquid diet, I've lost 53 lbs to date and that was with no fill at 6 weeks. I was also extremely impressed with the care I received while at MCV. Dr. Maher and his staff are awesome!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
