Does any one have regrets on being banded?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I want to thank all of you for answering my question and sharing your personal experiences.

I started my weight loss surgery journey with my heart completely leading me to get the band. When I went in for my first consultation with the surgeon, he recommended the RNY for me considering my co-morbidities and family history.

He told me that he would still do the band if I chose but felt that I would be more successful with the RNY. So I am scheduled to have that surgery done on March 3.

I have finally shared this information with people that I had not shared with up to now. To my amazement a few had several questions regarding WLS. I have shared my knowledge from what I learned during my Quest. I have researched all of the surgeries endlessly, but I felt the need to give my interested friends first hand information from people who have actually experienced the band.

You are all very inpirational. It is so good to hear that many of you have found life again and are living it rather than just watching it pass you by. I am looking forward to living again too. I pray that all of you have many years of success and new found happiness with your bands.

For those of you who are experiencing stalls or complications I pray that you find resolve and you are able to move forward full force.

My friends will be relieved to hear that most of you don't regret the band at all. Since the band is the route to weight loss they have chosen. Bless all of you and Thanks again.

Teresa

Yes. I'm post op 7 months. I've had 3 fix surgeries on the original site then a port move. No significant weight loss. As far as I'm concerned this was a useless surgery. If you eat and workout the way it's recommended after surgery you would loose weight even w/o the band. I'm on here as one last attempt to salvage something, but I feel like I was ripped off.

Just make sure you are willing to change everything about your habits and really commit to these changes...You can do the same with w/o the band.

I have days when I regret getting the band. Those are the days when I can't keep food down., but overall I'm content with the band.

I agree with stevegoad. I don't regret getting it done, but there are some things I don't like... The tummy rumblings, the gas, uncontrollable burping (embarrassing!), not being able to eat more of a meal I am really enjoying...

But although there are some down points, I definitely put up with it because it is working for me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
