Aw Linda.. what your feeling is normal. On here I've heard them refer to it as 'buyer's remorse'.. but I promise you it goes away. I struggled with the Isopure too.. I made jell-o with it, that was the only way I could get it down. Drinking it straight up I just couldn't handle the slick consistency. Others have also mentioned diluting it, or mixing it with Crystal Light. I found those tips after I was already onto full liquids, but hopefully they will help you. Good luck.. it will get better.. really it will.

I was banded 1/20, and took 1.5 weeks off before going back to work. I was grateful that I could sleep in (in my recliner), not think about anything besides getting the Protein in and reading these boards. I'm feeling much better now, and had kept a list of all the foods that "drove me crazy" during the month of liquids (2 pre-op and 2 post op), then pureed some of them during my current mushie stage (beef masaman, chili dog, roast chicken, tandoori chicken...just add broth if they don't have a lot of sauce, so I'm now getting the flavors and it was well worth the wait).

Good luck, it WILL get better.

Hey - don't worry - it's a reaction to the anaesthetic - they don't tell you that!! It's proven that you get depressed for about 2 weeks after going under... it's a big drug cocktail after all... ever heard of the crash after you do drugs? Same thing.... I had that weepy feeling - as did all the other people who posted here. I also wondered what the f***k have I put into my body. I'm now 8 weeks out and feeling normal again. And remember... the best thing about this surgery is that it's always reversible.

Good blog. I was wondering if I was the only one with some of the doubts and fears. It is great to have this forum where we can share these things. I guess we have to remember this is a TOOL. There is still much that I have to do for myself. Learning confidence and patience are two of the top items I need to work on. Confidence that I CAN do this and patience by remembering that it didn't happen overnight so I can't fix it quickly either. I agree that I need to focus on the end result. I am only 5 days out and have my first follow-up in 3 days. So let's just keep each other informed with as much as we can. The more knowledge we have about each of us is going through we will know we are not alone and what we can expect and how to handle it. Power for us in knowledge and support from others experiencing it together. Hang in there and hope to hear from everyone often.

Linda, Congratulations on your band!

I was just banded on 2/13. 10 am. I had the same feelings you did when I was being prepped for my surgery. I kept thinking about how I could tell the surgeon I changed my mind...but I didn't. It was scary, but don't remember anything. I have caught myself thinking about why I couldn't just stay on a heathly diet exercise and not do the surgery. I feel better today but am very tired if the liquids. I think my stomach is growling but can't really tell yet. I'm afraid to drink anything other than the doctor recommended for my liquid diet. It will get better! Just hang in there and we can keep in touch with our progress. Laura

I think the majority of those who had surgery felt this way at some point post op. I certainly did and regretted it until about 2 weeks post op. After that I began feeling so much better and now after over 5 months I don't regret it at all. I'm looking forward to a healthier future. You'll be fine in a couple of weeks or less.

Hi Linda,

I was banded 2/10/09. My worst day was 4 days post op, it bothered me so much to be thinking of everything I wanted to eat. Like I said to my husband there's alot to be said for being able to chew. I kept thinking to myself how can be hungry when I still have trouble getting my Protein Drinks and all the other Fluid I need to in w/out feeling bloated. It was horrible I just broke down and cried. Now I'm 7 days out and I'm feeling much better and know I will continue to do so. Everyone has their reasons for having the surgery, never forget yours they will be what carries you through all the tough times. Good luck and I hope you feel better.:tongue2:

You or anyone else can contact me for additional support.

Hang in there. Many of us have questioned if this was the right decision for us. I did before and after surgery. I really think it is the fear of the unknown mixed in with what we know.

My example is this; the fear of not knowing if WLS is really going to work mixed in with the knowing that every flipping weight loss attempted yielded less than stellar results.

Give your self time. Allow yourself to work the band. The weight we gain did not occur over not, so our weight loss will not happen over-night as well.

I bet in two weeks you will feel so much better.

Good luck!

Hi Linda

Adapting to the band can be difficult at first. I was banded almost 2 years ago in Belgium, I live in England. I am a member of another site too and what I experienced and what a lot of others experienced seems to be different to that of others on this forum. Firstly I have not heard of the Protein Drink that is mentioned and whilst all surgeons have different recommendations I am not alone when I say that I resumed sloppy food very early on. I was on Soups and yoghurts etc from day 3 and by day 6 I was on sloppies. Some people stay on liquids for much longer but it is also common to start on sloppies as early as I did. Your body will soon tell you if it is too early for you. It is a learning curve and everybody is different but there is no need to feel deprived when there are lots of alternative foods available, it can be an adventure rather than a physical endurance test. I am confident when I say this unless there is a huge difference between bands which I think not, I have a heliogast band.

Remember everybody is different and what works for one may not for another but I was not alone in my experience.

Good luck on your journey, chin up, you will soon see the benefits of having your band. I have never looked back and not once have I wished that I had not had it done, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The band exceeded my expectations for weight loss and flexibility, it got me to target without a lot of work on my part and I have just recently had a Tummy Tuck (3 weeks today) so I am like a new woman now! I hope my words inspire you or at the very least make you feel better.

Bye for now.

Heather

Oh yeah you will have days like this! It's like what the heck did I just do to myself? It gets easier but I had one of those days the other day. I just wanted to eat! But there are good things too - I haven't had soda for 3 weeks and I don't miss it. I thought I would be really missing it! I also lost 22 lbs since Jan 29th. You just have to take the good with the bad and get into your routine and you'll feel better!

Linda,

What you are feeling is completely normal after anesthesia. A few days after surgery it is common to feel depressed and regret. I remember crying and wanting to get the band removed immediately. My husband (a physician) explained the medical reasons for this and I accepted it and just cried for 3 or 4 days. Then it left me as fast as it came and I felt fine, even excited that I now had this tool to help me to lose weight. Hang in there and you should feel like your old self soon, after the anesthesia clears itself from your body.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
