I am a stomach sleeper and its been four weeks since I slept in my favorite position due to the port. I am wondering any of you serial stomach sleepers--have you been able to get back into position? How long did it take before laying on or near you port stopped bothering you?

I am primarily a side sleeper, but quite often, I wake up on my stomach. I think it was about 3-4 weeks before I could comfortably lay on my side. It took a while of falling asleep in my back, then rolling over. Now, the only time it bother's me to lay on my stomach, is if I'm laying on the floor. It doesn't hurt, but I feel my port and it's uncomfortable.

Have you tried getting a flat pillow and laying mostly on your stomach, but kinda tucking in the pillow under your port? Just an idea.

I'm a side sleeper and I can't stand being on my back. I hug a body pillow and everything is fine. Maybe get a body pillow and see if you can kind of lay on it a little and see if that works out?

I used to sleep primarily on my stomach, but now pretty much sleep on my side. It's not that it hurts to sleep on my stomach now, but just got used to being on my side post op, and now just pretty much do that.

I sleep on my stomach 95% of the time. I was able to start sleeping on my stomach about 5-6 weeks after surgery and have no problems. sometimes I can feel my port if I lye directly on it but no pain and no problems with it flipping or anything. Good luck I know that I couldnt wait to get back on my belly!!!

I was a stomach sleeper before surgery. I haven't been able to sleep on my stomach since surgery. At first it was because it was so tender, now it just isn't as comfortable as it used to be. It doesn't hurt anymore, but it just isn't the same.

My port is near the far left side of my stomach and I happen to sleep on my left side for the most part. At first, right after surgery, I would lay on my right side. But now I am back to the left side with no problem.

It is weird how we have a tendency to sleep a certain way.

i'm a stomach sleeper as well.

i have a sensitive port, so i went and bought a really lg comfy body pillow & now i lay sorta on my side/stomach. the pillow protects any discomfort that the port provides & hugs me back:wink:

I guess I'm a die hard stomach sleeper. Right after my surgery, I did sleep on my side (with a body pillow for support) for about 2 weeks. Since then I've been sleeping on my stomach without any problems. I don't feel my port, and it is located above my belly button (slightly to the right).

If memory serves me correctly, my first night at home after being banded I woke up on my stomach. And did so every night there after with no problems. So, it was almost immediate.

It was like this that I learned that although I fall asleep on my side, I sleep on my stomach. Who knew!

I was a die hard stomach sleeper until age 40. I ended up with arthritis in my spine, and now I can't. Even 10 years later it still bugs me not to be able to. I try. It lasts about 10 minutes then I'm groaning in pain. So I sleep on my side now. With a body pillow. I slept on my back for about 5 or 6 days post op, then used my body pillow to cradle the port area. That lasted another week. I've been fine ever since. It doesn't bother me at all now. thank God for body pillows.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
