How long before first fill?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering how long everyone waited before their first fill. It seems like for most people it is 6 weeks. I was wondering if anyone had theirs after 4 weeks. I am getting on on 2/23 and had my surgery 1/23. Does that seem like to soon?

Even though 6 weeks seems to be the average, everyone's different.

I was banded on 12/16 and still have not had a fill. At 6 weeks my Dr. felt my weight loss was ahead of the curve (40 lbs. since 12/1) and giving me a fill at that time was unnecessary. To be honest, I was still feeling pretty full when I ate, so I agreed with him.

In the past week, however, I've started feeling hungry even after I've eaten, so I guess it's probably time for me now. I do have another "fill" appointment in 4 weeks, but I'm not sure I can make it that long. I've been keeping my portions small, but I definitely don't want to start eating more to feel full! If I feel it's going to get away from me, I'll be calling him sooner than the appt.

All I can say (for both of us) is to hang in there and trust your Dr. If you feel you're ready for a fill, let him know.

Good luck!

I found that most of the people who were banded at the same time I was generally had their first fill after 4 weeks.

My first fill occured during surgery on 11/11/08, when my doctor placed 3cc into my band and then closed me up.

Then on December 10, I had my second fill.

Thanks for the replys. I feel much better now. I was starting to worry that my doctors office had scheduled me to early for the fill.

I was banded 1/14 and my first fill is today--not quite four weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
