Odd question about burps (not pb'ing, just burps)

Recommended Posts

Ok....I was banded 1/14 and I have a weird question for you all. For my entire life, I've never been able to burp. I've had little air bubbles that come up resembling a hiccup, but not really an honest to goodness BURRRRRP! I have no idea why and I never really thought about it. Now that I have the band, I'm burping like crazy! For a while after I eat, I can burp over and over again. My husband even heard me across the room. Of course, being a man (no offense to you males out there), he said he'd only be impressed when I could say my ABCs at the same time! LOL Is this normal? What is causing this? I don't think I'm ingesting air. I'm not drinking with straws, no carbonated beverages at all. I've been a "good girl" with respect to my diet and eating. What gives??? I'm not disturbed by it, I'm just curious....

I think someone asked this a week or two ago. I have not been banded yet, but the answer I got from it was because you have to chew so much that you inadvertently do swallow air. Short, sweet, to the point, there ya go. :cursing:

I think it has to do with the air that's trapped in the stomach underneath the band. I do it all the time while eating and for a good 30mins after.

Yes, me too. I happens more if I eat too fast but I do burp a lot after I eat. So bad that my dogs think I a growling at them! But if that is the worst side affect I get I will be happy!

I was banded on 11/26/08 and had the same issue, but i also had a hiatal hernia fixed during surgery. My Dr. said that the burping is normal. He didnt explain why, but it seems to be a very normal, natural thing after eating. My husband is finally getting impressed!

I was just saying the same thing!! I never burped before, or rarely and I could control it. I was banded less than 2 weeks ago and I'm now constantly burping. I guess it's normal if so many people feel the same way.

LOL, no wonder my dogs have been behaving worried around me.

My doc told me some people unconsciously swallow air and that's why I'm burping. Sorry doc, I don't believed I just developed this new bad habit. Burping does result in a comfortable release and I appreciate it.

It's funny... I work in a call center for a major bank, and I will be on the phone talking to a customer.... when all of a sudden a burp comes out. Sometimes I cannot control it... the air comes up quickly. It's actually really embarrassing sometimes.

I think there are different factors as said earlier: taking in air when you a chew a lot, air getting stuck in the pouch when the food starts to churn, and food possibly getting stuck in the band area.

In any case, it will probably never go away. Some days are good for me, and some days are bad... when it comes to burping. And it is not PB, because I hardly eat anything, I eat very slow, and chew a whole bunch.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
