Hello everyone!

I've never joined a group like this before so this is all new to me. I am being banded on Feb. 6, 2009 and now I'm getting scared. Mostly afraid I won't be able to lose the 6-10 pounds this week. My doctor told me to follow the Phase 1 of the South Beach diet. I admit it's easier than what I've seen some have had to do. I'm just nervous enough won't come off and it's stressing me out. Then I've never been able to lose weight and just wandering if I will fail at this too!! I'd like to find someone to help me through all of my emotions, ups and downs, and whatever else comes.

I enjoy reading the blogs and would love to hear from you!

Hi tstand, and welcome to LBT. Stick to the diet, and I'm sure you'll be successful. My pre-op diet wasn't as strict as many others either, and I lost 8 to 15 lbs (I can't remember the amount now). GOOD LUCK!!

I hope so! I am so ready for this, just getting cold feet I guess!

If I'm not mistaken, Phase I of South Beach is close to Atkins. You should drop quite a bit, but DO NOT CHEAT ON IT. That is the only way it works. Drink lots of Water and follow it to a "T" and you should do fine. Congratulations!

Hi there...I'm knew to the website too and have only posted one or two things and mostly have just read a ton! I am also getting banded on February 6 so I'll be rooting for ya!

My doc just told me to do a low fat, low carb, high Protein diet a week before surgery. I am on the 'smaller' side (according to him) for being banded and I must say, that sounded so nice! LOL...knowing i'll be on the 'smaller' side PERIOD after I get banded and lose my weight!!!

Anyhow, I've always eaten pretty healthy, but last week i ate really bad I guess was mostly mental as I knew that all the BAD eating days are behind me!

You'll do fine!!!

Follow Phase 1 and your doctors orders. You will drop some weight. Good luck on your new journey. I think Phase 1 on SB is the eaisest and much more healthy than Atkins. Stick to it and do not cheat and you will do fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
