So, I was on the phone with the doctor's office today trying to get a release to go back to work on Monday. Apparently since I've taken 5 sick days in a row, I need a doctor's release to go back to work. It seemed the doctor's office thought that a release to work was the strangest thing. Needless to say, I was still talking to someone at 5 p.m. trying to get this. I had to turn crazy lady to finally get some reaction.

However, it's not over. I got the release sent via e-mail, but my manager said it won't due. First, the date of my surgery is wrong on the letter and they didn't say whether or not I had restrictions. Since it was after 5, the office closed. I have to try again Monday morning.

Now, this is just a letter on the doctor's office letter head saying I can come to work. Nothing fancy. I wonder if I need restrictions, such as lifting and standing stuff, but I'm sure they won't add it. But that's besides the point. I need another letter and it took a whole day to even get the first one.

On top of that, my gas pain is still here and it's 7 days out. I'm fustrated by the gas bubble that settled on my left my side that I've been trying to walk out for 2 days, boil with a heating pad for 3 and rub the hell out of all this time. I try to walk 30 to 45 minutes, but then feel like passing out because it starts making me feel nasous. I'm afriad that I will go back to work Monday and keep feeling this bubble. I'm sitting here rubbing my side asking myself if it was worth it.

I just wish I knew when this gas will finally leave me be!! If I can imagine a punching bag with all the gas in me, I would KO it!!

There is a restriction on lifting for 4-6 weeks. Be sure it is listed on your release. Other than that, I am not certain.

I am sorry you are having that kind of trouble. I just had to do the formal extended medical leave form and fmla letter due to my recovery from my hysterectomy. Now, THAT takes a while to get filled out, but the letter you want they should have. It is just a permission to return to work/school form, with a section for restrictions near the bottom, that EVERY surgeon should have.

It is not unusual for your work to request this . . . it happens all of the time. They should have been better prepared, not to mention faster, to get a letter to you.

So I would just call them first thing on Monday and say they need to modify the letter they have and maybe even tell her specifically what it needs to say. You wouldn't have any restrictions post surgery other than lifting (and dietary of course but that doesn't affect work).

Sorry for your awful gas pain too. Have you tried the Phazyme? They worked for me when the Gas X strips were not enough. It does get better!!

Jeez. the gas bubble...Have you tried the "down dog" position--yoga....? I had terrible gas pain during pregnancy, even to the point where I understood how people could make the mistake that they were having a heart attack when they just have gas. The ONLY thing that worked was down dog alternating with the child's pose. None of the meds did a thing for me at that time. Hope you're better soon.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
