anyone else have a hard time waiting to drink?

Recommended Posts

I am doing better, but it's SO hard waiting at least 1 hour to drink..Today I got stuck not once but twice..Second time I sipped some warm tea to help it pass, it worked too..But I must be thirsty by nature or something because I find it so hard to wait..I have been, but so hard..I mean right down to the second, I am waiting for that first drink..Some days I'd rather just drink than eat..I also am so afraid of getting stuck again..

It is hard to wait for 60-minutes. After a meal, I just keep myself busy, while paying attention to the clock. I find if I distract myself with activties than I don't think about the Water.

I also try to avoid salty to foods. I love the salt, but the 60-minute rule makes it really hard to have these type of salty food items.

Confirm the time with your doctor...mine originally had us waiting an hour but has since revised it to 15 minutes. Do what your surgeon says, of course, but you might want to reconfirm. I think average (at least as posted here on LBT) is around 30 minutes post meal...but you need to do what your surgeon directs.

Having said that I find 15 minutes hard...I'd die if I had to go one hour. I feel for you!

My doctor said stop 5 minutes before I eat and 20-30 minutes after eating and I do find that hard. I'm still learning and I do find myself taking tiny sips of Water as I eat still. Its a LOT less than I used to and I'm weaning myself away from it.

My doctor said to no drinking for 30 minutes before and 45 minutes after.

This has caused me the most problems. I am prone to hiccups and have always had to drink when I eat to avoid them. Now if I don't drink, I get really strong hiccups and food wants to come back up or it gets stuck and hurts! If I sip just a little during my meal, it's much easier.

I am losing over 2 pounds a week and do not get hungry between meals; seldom do I have my Snacks that are in my meal plan.

As long as I am doing this well, I will continue to sip in order to keep my food down and avoid the pain of stuck food and hiccups.

best thing to do is not have a drink by you while u eat. Its important not to wash the food out of the pouch. I know its not an easy thing to do but i know u can  Its esp hard for me after eating a spicy meal but i get through, i get used to it. It will get easier with time. practice makes perfect.

Thanks. I'm definitely working in that direction. I'm down to only a few sips while I eat right now. I guess my body has to get used to producing enough saliva for my food now. :scared: It is getting easier every day and I know I'll get there!!!

This is one of the hardest things I am learning to do. I am very sensitive to spices and even pepper burns my mouth. So, I am going to have to either man up (LOL) or give up the spicier foods.

I'm in the same camp as everyone else it seems - wait 30 to an hour... but make sure what your doctor says.

But each person is different. 2 weeks ago, after my 4th fill, everything changed. I hit a sweet spot after my third, but the 4th... man. Suddenly, I don't eat near as much, I can't eat fast... and it pretty much makes me sick to drink right after I eat... For the first time in my life, drinking with food does not appeal to me.

So it might be something that when you really hit that sweet spot, you get past.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
