Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 12 days ago and am starting to be hungry. I also have a new pain around my port.

Anyone know if these two things are normal??

Thanks for your help!

I am not sure what is going on but I have also started experincing some pain around my port and I was banded on January 8th. I thought maybe I picked up on something that I shouldn't have. If you get an answer let me know.

Hi! I also got this new pain after I've been feeling pretty fine and it's driving me crazy. I can't sleep at night and I feel it all day. Its at my port site and below it and in my navel area. I spoke to the nurse at my drs. office and she said pain is normal for the first month for some and as long as I'm not gushing blood, I shouldn't worry, I didn't hurt myself inside. I hear so much about the port twisting or band slipping and the pain is making my nerves go crazy. Also, I'm feeling pretty good otherwise, I'm keeping some food down and have my strength back so this pain is really driving me nuts b/c i want to get back on with my life, you know... anyway, it's good to hear that others have the same concerns and I keep hoping it'll go away soon. I just came out of bed to take a painkiller ( which I haven't had in 6 days) b/c this tossing in pain in bed has reached its limit... good night and good luck to you!

Very interesting, I am more than 12 days- I was banded 1/12 - but I am now experiencing hunger for the first time, and yes, I feel various pains, not severe, but here and there. I have also not dropped any weight in a week.

The nurse also told me that it is normal. She said to remember that it's attached to the muscle, so it's gonna be painful...and it's a foreign body, so it's gonna be painful.

She said when it gets bad to take liquid Tylenol and use a heating pad.

I think the hunger is because there's no restriction for another two weeks!

Hang in there y'all...we can do this!

I totally know how you all are feeling. I was banded Jan 15th and of course had the usual post op pains. About 9-10 days post op I had such severe pains in my left side that it was totally unbearable. I couldnt stand up straight, couldnt take deep breaths...it started on a saturday and by sunday afternoon I had to call the doc. It had me worried that I had done something because I had been recuperating just fine and then all of a sudden got this awful pain. My doc said it was normal...it was probably stitches pulling...told me to take some ibuprofen and get off my feet and use the heating pad....I did just that and by monday morning I could tell a huge difference. Still "little" pains now and then but nothing compared to last weekend. Hope all of yours is better!!!!!

I was banded on Jan 20th and two nights ago think I pulled a muscle near my port. I was in soooo much pain. I thought I had damaged something. The pain felt like someone was ripping me from the inside. My husband ended up calling my doctor @ midnight. My doc said that this was normal and just to take some Ibuprofen. I had been feeling really good before this incident. Now, for the past 2 days I have been sore near my port and have a huge purple bruise near it.

Im hoping that it will feel better in a few days.

What a scary thing!

Relieved to know that I am not the only one to be going thru this.

Good luck to all!

I was banded on the 15th of January. I am hungry too! My Doc and other's have said once the swelling goes down and without a fill we are wide open. I get filled on 2/17. Hopefully that will help! No pain around my port, but I have a nerve 5 inches from any incision that feels like FIRE! OUCH!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
