overfilled!

Recommended Posts

I went in for my third fill, i was already at 5.5 cc with decent restriction, so the doc put in another 1 cc. i took two sips of Water and it gurgled but i thought everything was fine. I get in the car to leave and realize after tryin to drink a sip of water it was just sitting there in my chest. I thought I might be too tight at that time. I tried to eat some Soup later for dinner and got sick. it got stuck off two lil sips and it almost came up. The following morning I called the docs office to let them know what was going on. They told me to wait it out for a day to see if it loosens up. Unfortunatly that day was awful. I threw up at least 10 times. On my own saliva, on a sip of water, on my lunch. nothing will go down. I went to lay down last night and my saliva came back and i breathed it and was choking. scary... anyway i go through the night and now am headed to doc for an unfill and Im a lil aprehensive as far as how much they will take out. Right now im completely closed up and concerned ive had no water or food in over a day but i feel ok physically. i dont want them to take too much out. maybe .25 or .5 but i hope they dont take everything out :cursing: has anyone else gone throught his with a fill and if so. did they take it all out or just a lil to still give u the restriction u needed?

I have had an unfill, actually 2 and the first time they removed half of the fill they had given me. The 2nd time they removed the complete fill.

Hope this helps.

Dont worry. Ive had at least 3 unfills(dr.s agressive) and the last I was really concerned about too much being removed as it was right bfor Christmas. I shared this w/them and they took out .5 and it only lasted about a week, but it was better than removing all Fluid, I guess.

Other unfills, I just tried to ride out and it worked once, but other 2 had some removed. Share your concerns w/your dr. and surely they will work w/you, mine were very understanding about situation.

Also, I always have amount I would like filled/unfilled in mind and let them know my thoughts on this(i.e. .5, .7, ).

I always like to feel as if Im included on this, even if the number is different from what I expect, but not too much.

Communicate your thoughts and feelings about not getting a complete unfill, first and foremost, then go from there.

Also, when fills were too tight and REALLY bad, I explained it in normal terms, as the dramatic way I felt scared them too much(afraid too much unfill).

I hope this helps! Good luck!

This just happened to me too!! It was the scariest thing ever. I still haven't eaten any solid food since Tuesday. Just some thick Soups, cottage cheese and liquids. I'm still too sore. Had a 1cc unfill to losen up and heal, so hopefully in a month or so I'll get that back. In the mean time, I'm hoping to lose a bunch of weight in the next couple of weeks while I'm healing up. Lost 8 pounds in three days because of being too tight.

Help! I've had the most horrible weekend ever. I got a fill almost 3 weeks ago (3 cc) and now it's really bothering me. Every solid food I eat comes back up and sometimes I cannot even drink Water. I tried to call my doctor this weekend and couldn't reach him. I called 3 different ER's and they didn't know how to do a fill. After all these years doing lap bands, and no one in the ER knows how to do a fill! I am going in first thing to the doctor tomorrow morning without an appointment. I've had acid reflux so bad at night I cannot even lay down without sliming, I am coughing all night, and once, I woke myself up throwing up. Yikes!!!! I'm exhausted!

Hi, I know how painful an over fill can be. I got a fill about a month ago but all of sudden I had the same problems as you. I thought I had a slip so I went to ER Saturday. They did a barium swallow and I was way to tight! They took 2 cc out of the 5cc I had in there. I immediatley felt better! The Dr told me it was good I got an unfill because all the throwing up would have made my band slip or worse made my bottom portion of my stomach come up through the band. I love losing the weight and feeling full but I feel 100% better now. I might get one more fill, maybe 1 cc but thats it. The pain and scare was horrible!

That sounds just aweful! Whenever I've gotten a fill my doctor asks me to stay & finish a cup of Water & if there is any discomforfort he wants to know right away so an adjustment can be made. Asking you to wait it out while you are choking on your own saliva doesn't sound quite right. Make them slow down & answer all of your questions. They are getting paid too much money to treat you like they are doing you a favor. Good luck

it has happened to me a couple times. twice they took it all out because of all the swelling from spitting and gagging and choking. this last time just took out 0.5, now I am at Dr. to add 0.1. You probably have enough now to just get little fills not to go overfilled. I am just going to go real slow it just might take longer. I hate being over full it is miserable. good luck.

I am wondering if I have had too much in my last fill. All I can get down are liquids. If I take too big of a sip it feels like I'm being stabbed in the chest. It stays like that for about 10 or 15 minutes. If I eat anything it comes back up. If I drink anything after 7:00 pm I am up all night burping up Water. I know, it's pretty gross).I am on day 6 since my fill. (Am 7 months out from surgery). I was wondering if I should wait it out another week or call the doc for an unfill. I am worried they will take out too much, also. Does anybody have any insight out there? Thanks!

Pam

Hi everyone! I ended up showing up at the doctor's office on Monday. I was severely dilated! My esophagus was even inflamed. They couldn't figure out if it was a slippage or not. They took out all the Fluid except for 1 cc (I was at 2.5). I'll be there next Monday for a follow up and to possibly add more fluid. I feel sooooo much better! I'm hungry though! :) I can actually sleep lying down now with no acid reflux. Yeah! Thanks for all the advice!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
