wait and see or go to dr?

Recommended Posts

I just came back from fill #2. #1 was 3cc and I felt nothing, #2 was 2 or 2.5 more and the dr has us drink a cup of Water on the way out. I was fine until I was about 4 or 5 blocks from the dr office, stopped in a starbucks bathroom and threw up a few tablespoons (if that) and didn't throw up but my mouth is FULL of saliva. 1 hour later and the saliva is slowing down but should I wait and see?

also, forgot to add. I had a sort of large Breakfast before getting filled (3/4 breakfast sandwich) and feel like I may have some pressure from this. Probably had this at 10 and the fill at 10:45.

And how do you feel now? Can you drink Water now and keep it down? If not, please call your doctor and see if he/she wants you to go back to get a unfill, even if it is only a little bit. My friend went through this exact thing and if you are too tight, it can get worse.

how does it get worse? I am still getting a lot of saliva. If I don't spit, I need to throw it up (I guess not real throw up -- no stomach acid). However, it my chest did feel really tight and now it doesn't. Should I wait another hour or so before calling dr?

Well, all of the pbing can cause swelling which makes the problem worse. This is exactly what happened to my friend. Felt tight, but not really bad and by the time she got home she felt like you do. Unfortunately she waited until the next day.

If you can not swallow Water, call your doctor now. They do not want you in that condition. Tell them you keep spitting saliva up. If they can unfill a little now, it may save you from having to get more taken out later.

This same thing happened to me and wound up going back the next day to take a little out and wished I had gone back earlier.

You're too tight, go back!

My Dr's PA said when you experience problems after a fill you should come back in as soon as possible.

Problems like this usually do not get better according to him.

Call your doc and ask. Since it's the weekend coming up you don't want to be in misery for several days...and you can dehydrate really quickly.

I vomited on the way home from a fill once and waited until the late evening to call the doctor and she met me after midnight at the office to take out the extra fill. She told me never to wait more than an hour or two if you're still not able to swallow your own saliva! Nancy.

ended up going to the dr and had 1.5 cc taken out. The issue was more the constant saliva which, if swallowed, made me throw up. I could tolerate not eating/drinking for a day or so but I had to carry a bag with me and spit! I don't know what would happen when I slept! I told the nurse that lapbandtalk.com told me I should go in! Anyway, I at least now know my sweet spot is between 4 ccs and 5 1/2. I go in again in 2 weeks.

I'm so glad you went! What a terrible weekend you'd have if you hadn't! :scared2:

yeah, I wonder if there is some way to add more tags so new people know, when in doubt, go back in. Or maybe they aren't as dense as me!

You aren't dense. There are a lot of people that wait hoping that it will get better. You know now not to do it. That is all that matters. I am glad that you are feeling better.

It isn't a matter of being dense, or even a matter of waiting to see what happens. I went for a fill on Tuesday. Got .5ccs, took me up to 7 in a 10 cc band. I was fine and forgot to crush my meds when I went to bed. They are very small but got stuck. I ended up pbing them and slimed the rest of the night. This started at 11:00pm. I woke up at 6:00am the next day and was able to handle cream of chicken Soup. I went out of town (3 hour drive) and had a couple of teaspoons of mashed potatoes and they got stuck. I was miserable for the rest of the day. Slimed all the way home and stopped at the ER. By that time I was bringing up this weird foam, that was a new one for me. Of course where I went they could do nothing for me because they are not familiar with the procedure so I was bounced back and fourth between the ER and the minor injury clinic. They finally paged my surgeon and by that time I was feeling quite a bit better. I ended up going home and woke up throughout the night choking on my spit. My father drove me to the doctor the next day because by then I was weak from not eating or drinking anything. I got .5 cc taken out and felt better after waiting an hour drinking Water and a protien shake. Talk about crappy. So starting over and doing the 5 day pouch test, might as well!

So now I have a question. During a fill has anyone ever experienced a feeling of your insides being sucked out when they remove the saline before filling you? I have never experienced it before and have had 5 fills prior to this one. When my doc unfilled me it was the same sensation, and it hurt. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, it was just something new and I haven't seen this discussed here.

Thanks

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
