Hi October 2011, I am not from Bloomington/Normal or IL for that matter but am banded and have relatives that live in Bloomington:). Also I have met and made a good friend who lives in Peoria who is banded. You should join your bariatrics support meeting and that way you could hook up with people who have had the surgery done in your area. It is great being able to talk with people who have gone thru this surgery. I've met 2 people on the lapband chat site, actually met them, the one from Peoria and one from Arizona who are great friends.

Are these meetings still active? Have been looking for one in IL but seems like I am going to have to go to St L to find a group.

Hi-----Anyone from Blm/Normal? I will be having lapband surgery soon. Dr. Wieland will be performing the surgery. Would love to hear how people who have had this surgery are doing, and if you have any advice to offer me on making this a success! I've tried so many other ways to lose weight, and all have failed. I'm looking at this opportunity to be my last chance at it.

Hi! I'm from Bloomington and Dr. Wieland did my lapband too. Best decision I ever made--and i almost chickened out. ha!

I don't usually write on this, but since you are right here I thought I'd answer.

Everyone's experience is different, so no one can tell you what is best for you except yourself. For me, it is great.

Remember it is a lifelong change you are making.

I lost 100 pounds and have kept off 92 for three years now. Each time I slip back a bit, the band helps me to get my weight under control again. I'll never be skinny, but I feel very good and can do so much more now than when I was heavier. I don't regret a thing, but other people have different experiences, so no one can say what your experience will be.

I'll think about you and keep you in my prayers!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
