Hi Everyone- I was wondering if there was anyone in this forum that is insulin resistant. If so has it made losing the weight a slower process. I was told that I am insulin resistant but I am not diabetic. I was not sure how this will effect my weightloss. Thank You in advance for replying.

I was diagnosed with insulin resistance probably 15 years ago and have been diabetic for about 5 years. I was banded September 2008. Happily, my weight loss has not been slower than usual. I've lost about 50 pounds in almost 5 months. So that is right on par for about a 1 to 2 pound weight loss per week. Good luck to you.

I am insulin resistant, too. My primary care physician said that I may still have trouble losing weight with the lap band, but I have not found that to be true. I have lost a little over 40 lb. (including preop) since the beginning of September. I am anxious to retest my fasting insulin number to see if there is any improvement since having the surgery.

Good luck!

Hi. I am also insulin resistant with PCOS. I have lost almost 40 pounds since the middle of September (including pre-op). I would say that it hasn't slowed my weight loss. Of course, the weight isn't coming off as fast I want it to (I want it gone yesterday, lol), but it is on par with what we have been told it should be. Good luck to you!

This makes perfect sense...I am insulin resistent and have had some trouble losing with the band. Admittedly, I didn't follow the post op diet strictly, however, I didn't over do it either. I've lost 30 lbs since my 7/10/08 surgery. I don't believe everyone loses 1 - 2 lbs a weeks as reportedly - that is the average weight loss. Some weeks it's .5 and other weeks it's 3 so it all averages out. I am exercising and eating the proper Protein, veggie and carb ratio and still don't see the huge losses as most others. I hope this helps.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
