Three weeks post op and eating/weight gain

Recommended Posts

I also had my surgery on the 8th of Jan. I still have the pain around the port area, :Dancing_wub: and also have pain in between my shoulders which I still think is gas. Between the pre-op diet and now I have lost 30 pounds hope it keeps going. :wink2: Started mushy foods last Thursday and have really noticed the hunger since then, have to wait 5 more weeks for a fill.:Dancing_wub:

I'm not sure how to use this forum, but I am giving it a try. I am 4 weeks post op. I was eating food by day 6. I still lost 20lbs, but nothing since. I am working my butt off in the gym, but to no avail. I am so frustrated! I had ONE fill 1 1/2 cc's. My surgeon says my band is smaller than most people's band. I'm not sure what that means. To tell you the truth, I don't know much about my band at all. I don't have restriction and if I wanted to, I could eat a full meal. I don't. I try really hard to eat small amounts and drink my proten shakes. I switch to liquids once or twice a week, but still NO weight loss! Is this normal!? I'm beginning to think I should have had the gastric bypass. I'm so jealous of those people whose weight just falls off. UGH! HELP!!

Don't despair! I would NEVER choose bypass over the band! I've researched both for over 5 years, and then benefits of the band w/slower weight loss, far outweigh then only benefit of bypass (which is faster weight loss ImO). We utilize the band as a tool, which we can have much more freedom with, and basically choose our success. I am only 1 day post op and I know nit wsa the right choice for me!

OMG I am 4 weeks post op. I had lost 8lbs in the first two weeks. I went back to doc today and gained 2lbs. What gives? I am eating way less than before and do not understand how I can be gaining weight. This is so frustrating.

Buggie-

I am just 2 weeks post op and have lost weight but from what I read here it might be your body going into starvation mode. Hard to believe if we are eating less and eating mostly Protein we might be gaining weight. I am starting to do some research on this as I am affraid it will happen to me.

I can tell you everyone that has commented on it says it is common in the very 6 to 8 weeks after sirgery and once you start getting adjustments it will change things.

Hope this bit of info helped.

Maybe a more experienced bandster will comment.

All the best

I apologize for not clarifying. I was on my way out the door to see a movie, and I realize it sounded flip.

I guess what I mean is that bandster hell is that -- hell. It is that time before the band works but after surgery has taken place. It's that time when sheer will power has to take over, and it can be very hard.

Like after my first fill, for whatever reason, I ended up HUNGRIER than before the fill. I was hanging on by my fingernails because I was literally starving just a couple hours after having eaten, and that was never normal for me even before being banded.

There WILL be times that we have to utilize willpower, and God knows that we need to work the band. There will never be a time that the band alone will do it all for us. It won't choose good foods for us, it won't make us work out, it won't keep us on track. We will have to do that with the aid of the band.

I sincerely apologize for my short stupid post. I should know better to give such a short answer when I don't have time to explain -- OR to not give a short answer like that when I need to explain. I knew what I was thinking in my head, but you didn't. I'm sorry for that. :scared2:

No problem.... I just felt like a couple people were attacking me for what I was eating or something, without knowing what my exact diet is.... I am allowed to eat one regular/solid item at each meal... That means I can have beef (als74).. So I guess I was confused at what you meant by that, so I apologize if I sounded harsh!!!! I do combine a solid with a soft and have had no problems, I don't think I have much restriction, a little but not a whole lot.. Thank goodness I do have enough that I don't eat nearly as much as I use to, not even close, hehehehe!!

rather than get in a pissing contest, allow me to educate you WHY there is a post op diet and you shouldnt be eating steak until your doctor (not anyone else - noone on here, your BFF, your mother) tells you differently.

the post op diet is for healing.... it is not intended to torture you ... it is also not intended to lose weight... if you've lost weight on the post op diet, great job... it's a BONUS of what is to come... they dont call this "bandster hell" for nothing.

YES - YOU WILL BE HUNGRY... up your Protein, see what Protein drinks your doctor recommends...

you really need to limit the amount your stomach churns so it can heal. think of a 'normal' cut on say your leg... what do you do, you take care of it, maybe put a bandaid on it so it stays clean and dry... now think of your stomach... is there any way to keep it clean and DRY? nope... that delays 'normal' healing times... eating foods you should not be eating and having the stomach churn delays this even more and you could evenutally end up with a slipped band... not necessarily 1-2 months down the road... we're talking 2-3-5 years down the road..

if you are several weeks post op and really truly struggling wiith your current phase, call your SURGEON and see if they can suggest something.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
