:)WHAT HAVE I DONE-Please someone put me at ease!!!!!

Yesterday was bad enough when i had to overlook pizza, but today at dinner my family had mashed potatoes and before i thru most of it away i had about 5-6 spoons with a small amount of applesauce. im suppose to be on thicker liquids only until next wed when i can switch to mushies.

was out of my mind????!!!! right now i feel pretty full, kinda of uncomfortable but not in any pain nor bring up. its just i was sooooo hungry. really so and thought of having Soup again for dinner just wouldnt cut it.

have i screwed everything up? will i be paying a price for this? and liquids cant seem to get all the Water down, can it be other things?

i feel so stupid. no one knows. i just had to get this out to someone.

i go to the doctor for my first post op visit friday and im so concerned that i really messed it all up.

have i compromised my band? its only been one week and i feel so ridiculous. need wisdom, comfort, support.

Micki

You probably didn't mess up anything, but do bear in mind that (according to my dr) that band has to "set" and giving it things that are harder to digest can mess with that....and if it doesn't "set" right, then fills won't be as effective.

So I'm sure you are fine and you KNOW what to do. Get back on the liquid wagon.

(by the by.....in order to SURVIVE, I got some cream of potato Soup, added some extra milk, blended the CRAP out of it and drank it. YUMMY! And all potato-y. It will help with your sanity and is a better choice than mashed taters)

not the end of the world, or the end of your band.

go stand in the corner for 5 minutes.

Okay, seriously, you really need to give your band time to heal. Some docs say that anything that can go through a straw is fine, others are more strict.

Please follow the directions of your doc.

Micki, you are in the HEALING phase now and that's why you have to follow your doctor's instructions. If you're hungry, that's a good sign that your healing is progressing well, so you probably didn't hurt anything at all. But please try to stick to liquids for the prescribed period! Why take chances? Don't let yourself get too hungry; there are loads of good Soups and smoothie options to keep your tummy full for the next few days.

Relax!! It's almost over. :)

Hi Micki - I don't know if this will put your mind at ease so much as help you feel that you're not alone, but I did the same thing. I'm 10 days post-op and I'm supposed to be on thicker liquids for another week and a half. Last night I had the bright idea to put a cheese-it in my mouth.

It didn't hurt my stomach at all, and before I knew it I had at least a serving and a half in me. Even though my overall calorie intake for the day was about 800 cals I was up a pound this morning. I'm pretty sure it was God trying to say "don't screw this up, moron". I'm determined to stick to the liquids from now on - I do NOT want a slipped band and neither do you. Stick with it - we'll be eating regular food soon!

I'm 11 days out of surgery now and also still supposed to be on liquids. Last night my husband and I went out to dinner with friends and I just couldn't resist. We went to the BEST Mexican restaurant in town. Everyone ordered, except me - I was just going to drink my Rasberry Tea and that would be it. But, I didn't. I ate a couple (very small) bites of my husband's refried Beans and a few papitos with cheesey sauce and a half of a chip. Then I started freaking out cause I had eaten SOOOOO much. I wasn't in any pain, but I started having a panic or anxiety attack or something. I won't do it again - at least I'll try not to do it again - but I SURVIVED. I too have been very hungry, but terrified to eat anything - liquids just don't take away the hunger.

I also had some poor choice decisions when I was just a few weeks out of surgery. The guilt was horrible. Like everyone has said DO NOT do it again but DO NOT Worry either. What is done is done & more than likely your 100% in tip top shape;0) Let your body heal & let your band settle in & know that you will eat one day soon. You'll be just fine & fell really great when you go for your first fill & you feel restriction. That is when I knew for sure my band was working & I hadn't screwed up. I only made it up to my soft food stage & basically started real food then & skipped the whole last 2 weeks of real food because I was already doing it during the soft food stage(make sence?lol). The most important stages (I think) are the liquid & the mushies so try & stay strong- you can do it!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
