I just spent 2 hours dragging my old Nordic track out of the garage, cleaning it off and re-assembling it. Only to find that my thighs are too big to make the strides. (The skis are too close together). :) Damn! It's too cool for the pool, and arthritis in my feet and knees keeps me from walking on pavement for even a little while. How frustrating! Guess I'll drag out that old Lesley Sansone walking tape. Better days are coming.

KEEP THE FAITH!!

Hi Question have you been banded?

Not yet. My surgeon's office just submitted my documentation this week to the insurance company. I've been working on my requirements for about 8 months now. Just thought I should try to do a little exercise...

hi well u have a lot going on. We call where u r now is no where hell. It took me around 9months to get all of it done. But let me tell u once u get your date(and u will) it goes fast. It is so worth it. Things will change and it does work. I needed this group of supporters so much.. They made the whole procedure easy. U ask and someone will answer and help. We all go through almost the same things. Once u get your date u will get scared, to question yourself the dr. the whole thing... that to is what we do... hang in there and don't worry to much about the exercise, later u will laugh at it.... I couldn't walk without a cane before and now I walk everywhere....I want to. hang in there...u are worth it...:)

Thanks for the encouragement Cathrine. It's so good to hear you no longer use your cane. I'm just about your age - just turned 60 - and am really hoping losing this weight will make me feel so much better.

All I can say is hang in there! I was kinda in the same boat, I couldnt exercise until a couple of months ago. I felt like I would drop over from a heart attack, let alone the pain in my knees and back. The weight started coming off on its own after the band. After awhile, I was able to start exercising. Now I work at a factory that I am on my feet 12 hour nights and feel great! 15 more pounds to onederland!! Good luck with your insurance and band~I hope it goes quickly for you!

Picklesix... I hope your approval comes fast. It's stressful waiting for it to arrive. In the meantime, though, I would still try to get any and all exercise that your are capable of. It's amazing how quickly the body responds to it. It will also make your surgery and recovery go much better. Just do what you can, and try to add small progressions. You can even do a lot while seated. Get a couple of Soup cans and see how many times you can lift them above your head. While seated, extend a leg out one at a time and see how many seconds you can hold it there. What is a challenge this week, will be easy two weeks from now. The absolute worst thing you can do is nothing.

Keep up the good fight!

Brad

Thanks for your encouragement. I'm really counting on this surgery to change my life. Everyone tells me my arthritis will improve drastically, I sure hope so. You are doing just great! I read some of your posts, and you lost a lot of weight before getting any fills, right? Did you have any restriction at all, or did you accomplish that with just having the right mindset? Good for you!

That's definitely wise advice, and I can see from your stats you're doing something right. Today I went to a giant warehouse store and walked inside for a good 20 minutes. That's about all I could handle, but I feel better for even accomplishing that much. Thanks!

Keep the faith!

There is normally a period after being banded - and the surgery swelling goes down - that is very tough! The hunger comes back and physically you're able to eat just as you were pre-band BUT your stomach pouch is still healing/adjusting and it's important you don't do so. It's called "Bandster Hell" and it's tough. Unfortunately a lot of people end up gaining weight for a short amount of time until you get enough fills to get satisfactory restriction. You just have to be patient and work very hard to stick to the rules. Once you achieve good restriction it get MUCH easier.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
