Anyone on ADD/ADHD meds?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have been taking Adderall for a couple years now for ADD. Over the past few months, I have been trying to take it more regularly, and have noticed that the day after I take it, my band is a LOT tighter. This is even when I pump fluids like crazy when I take it. I know Adderall dehydrates me, but it seems like no matter what I do, I cannot stay ahead of the med. Anyway, I am considering going to a psych to have them switch my meds to something else... even though I LOVE my Adderall.

Does anyone else take ADD meds and have any odd side effects like I've described? Whether you do or don't if you feel comfortable, can you tell me what you take? Thanks.

Hey Katy! I was diagnosed a little over a year ago with adult ADD and take Adderoll every morning. I've never noticed any symptoms like you are describing. I have had to lower my dosage as I've lost weight, but that's about it. Hope you get everything straight!!

Hi there,

My son is ADHD. He was on Concerta for about 3 years. This school year, he seemed to be struggling more, so his doctor switched him to a new one called Vyvanse. So far so good. The only side effects he has had with either prescription was loss of appetite. I make sure he eats though! His doctor does always ask if he is sleeping ok - which he is, so that might be a side effect to watch for.

Hi! I have been on Adderal for many years now, I will be banded Feb. 11 and am nervous about taking my medication after. I take the time release capsule. Have you had trouble swallowing your pill?? I;m glad I found this post!

I found this post through search and am wondering the same question. I am supposed to take a 20 mg Adderall XR everyday, and since being banded I haven't been able to take it (obviously). In every dept other than food, my life has been slightly haywire.

I need to be able to get back on my meds, and since this is a non-crushable pill I'm wondering what those with ADD/ADHD have done....

I believe the Adderall XR capsule can be opened up and sprinkled on some food, and eaten that way. I have had to discontinue my Adderall instant release because it simply dehydrates me too much, and I get WAY TOO tight. I am going to call my doc today so we can find something different. Adderall has been a GREAT help to me, but I hope I can find something else that does the trick as well and cooperates with my band.

I take concerta. I was off it for about three months right after I was banded. I've been back on for a month and am having no problems.

I just started taking adderall & absolutely LUV it. I cannot believe they don't prescribe it for those who struggle w/ appetite control. It is truly a miracle drug. I focus so much better at work & home. And NO munchies/hunger. Sometimes don't even finish my small meals. I usually take it just after I've eaten something so I don't have any problems taking the pills. Instead of crushing, why not just cut them in halves so they are smaller. I've lost 15 lbs in 3 mos w/ nothing extra. Now I'm ready to start running & bet i'll have no problem losing the last 20 I want to get to my absolutely ideal wt. I'm very excited about this summer!!!

My docs said to crack open the tablet and take the granules inside it, they also said not to chew any of it at all... I haven't had the courage to try it yet (afraid of the side effects).

Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
