February 4 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi Snakewando, I am also getting banded on the 4th. Ugh! I'm really excited and scared. I can't believe it is getting this close. I spent so long planning and talking about it, now the actual procedure is coming!

Hi Mnfarmgal - I'm doing great too! I'm so jealous that you get to have mushies. I'm not allowed any until Wed the 18th. I'm craving tuna salad!!! How are your incisions? Last night was the first night I slept on my stomach.

I'm so glad I did this too. I can't wait to weigh on the Dr's scale!! Happy Valentine's day!

Sunnycoconut for lunch today I had a craving for egg salad so that is what I'm havin. Isn't it weird how all Drs. are different in how and what you can eat? I have 1 incision that's giving me a little grief but my dog jumped on it last night and caught his nail I finally slept on my stomache for the 1st time last night, other wise my side for about a week. Where did you have your surgery done? Mine was in Denver with Dr. Kirshenbaum. It just seems like you plan this for so looooong and then boom it's done and over with, and you feel great! Can't wait for summeR!!!

Oh my God, I can't believe your dog jumped on you! I've been worried about my cats doing that. I bet that hurt.

I had my surgery in Tampa with Dr. Murr. I had the sweetest nurses, especially in recovery.

How many incisions do you have? I expected between 3 and 6. I have 2. All the scar pictures I've seen on this website have more. I'm not complaining at all, I was just surprised.

Mmmm, egg salad... lucky. Wednesday!!!!

I have 5 incisions , 2 that are about 1inch long the others are just where they poked everything through.

Aren't the nurses in recovery just great! The ones I had were really nice to, I gave them all a hug before I left because they were so sweet. Before you know it Wed. will be here and you'll be having your tuna salad!! We had my sisters 50th birthday party tonight at our house and I didn't even miss not having the cake and ice cream, I did have a lick of frosting though and I hate to say it but it was kinda good.

martyh don't worry to much, before you know it it's done and over with. I've lost 8lbs pre-op and 11lbs post-op I only plan on weighing myself once a week, I wanna see the scale move more than a few ounces at a time! I have about 100lbs to lose, and I told my hubby as long as I get below 199 I'll be happy, haven't weighed that since my oldest daughter was born 25 years ago. Keep us updated on how your surgery goes and good luck, before you know it your life will be getting better and thinner!!

Hey guys, I was banded on the 4th of Feb too, in Adelaide Australia.

I started on mushy's on the 15th, and it was the BEST. I was so sick of Soup. I am getting over vitamised food though.

My biggest problem though is shoulder tip pain that just won't go away! I am about to go and get a massage to loosen up my shoulder.

I have lost 12.5kgs so far (27.5 pounds), but have stalled for the last 5 days. Hoping the weight loss starts again soon!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
