Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for 1/26/09, so I'm starting my pre-op diet today. If anyone has any recommendations for Protein Shakes that taste better than others, please let me know.

Wish me luck!!

I used Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added), that was a recommendation from the dietician in my Dr's office, she said it was one of the best tasting ones out on the market and honestly, it wasn't bad at all. Everyonce in awhile after surgery I still have them and throw in a banana. It's like a chocolate banana milk shake... DH thinks I'm crazy but hey, I like it...

Good luck to you, I'm actually having my band redone on 1/28 so if you would, please wish me the same...

Optimum Nutrition.

But I think you need to change your mindset - you'll soon be eating for ENERGY, NOT for pleasure .. it's not about the taste, it's about the quality of nutrients you'll be taking in.

Just keep in mind that EAS Myoplex is abnormally high in sugar and sodium for the amount of Protein you get.

It's also a milk based Protein, which is often hard to absorb, and not recommend for fat loss.

It's also loaded with canola oil. This is not a good fat.

I would stay away from the 'pre-made' drinks for obvious reasons.

Stick with whey isolates, hydrolislates, micellular caseins, egg white Proteins (not as blends but as individuals)

Quick Recipe:

250Ml Whole Milk

2 Table Spoons Natural Peanut Butter

2 Scoops ON whey (Flavor of your choice)

Total Calories: ~620

Total Protein: ~55

Thanks for the ideas. I tried Slim Fast Optima today and it tasted like metal. I'm gonna try both the sugar free carnation instant Breakfast and the EAS myoplex. I've heard some good things about those from other sources.

And good luck Levi27!

 That's almost my entire day's allotment of calories in one shake!

I can get 54 grams of Protein with only 360 calories via the Protein powder I use and there are others that are even better. (Mine is a tad high in carbs for my liking and has a dab of fat as well -- but it doesn't upset my stomach like the others so it's worth it.)

Well I started my liquid diet yesterday, but my surgery isn't until 2/10/08 so I am thinking to myself ...maybe this isn't right. I call the doctor and the RN calls back telling me I don't have to start til 1/21/08......I am SO EXICITED that I can have food!

By the way I am using the Carnation instant breakfast no sugar too...I don't mind it. Good luck to all of you!

I just can't get these shakes down... I think i have to call the nutritionist. Today I tried Lean Body and Muscle Milk... Yuck! Protein Shakes are just not for me. I'm being really good about the rest of the diet, but want to make sure my liver shrinks! Does anyone know if Protein Bars affect the liver the same way as the shakes?

They have way more carbs so I'm guessing, no.

What shrinks the liver is low carbs, high Protein.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
