I am the only one frustrated?

Recommended Posts

I think if your complaint had been more general it would have been fine to post it publicly, but by singling out the person who ate the burger two days post-op it became a public criticism of a specific person. In general it is better to not criticize people publicly, so yeah, PM would have been better. (Best of all would be not to criticize people at all, but very few people are that angelic, lol.)

As for me, I get very frustrated at myself if I ever do something wrong - and the bigger my mistake, the worse I feel. Worst of all when the mistake was completely my own fault and responsibility - that hurts! Then I feel like a failure on top of my mistake.

I guess that's why I tend to sympathize with other people when they make mistakes. I might not make the same mistakes as they do, but I can relate to the feeling of having messed up royally. So, even though I stuck like glue to my pre- and post- op diets, I sympathized that she had made such a big mistake by eating the burger.

I just love how a few of you read only certain parts of what I have to say and completely ignore the rest.

I also make mistakes, I DO sympathize, if I never made major mistakes- hello- would I have needed the band? NO! Please share your mistakes. JUST EXPECT ME TO BE HONEST! I bet I will make mistakes, and I will share them. I am just not going to ask you if it is ok. Because I know it is not. We are sharing and understanding, not here to tell you hurting yourself is ok. You are more than welcome to feel the way you do. People need all kinds of sympathy/empathy. I only used the hamburger incident (actually there was two) because it was the most recent and the most shocking to me. I feel horrible for that person, to go through such a painful process as surgery then to have such a lack of support. But I wouldn't ever say it was ok.

I was responding to your post where you said you should have expressed your frustrations by PM instead of publicly. I was agreeing with you. I commented only on the hamburger incident part of your post because that was the only part relevant to the public/PM thing - I felt that part should not have been written publicly because it would be very hurtful to that person to open a thread and find other people criticizing her not quite behind her back and not quite to her face.

I agree that being honest with oneself it critical to being successful with the band and in life. But she was honest. She didn't ask if it was okay, as you said. She asked how badly she messed up. She was also honest enough to say she ate poorly, and she even said that she "sucked."

Here's what she wrote:

"... I'm so afraid that I've ruined myself before I started. How badly have I messed up by eating so poorly?

FYI, I've been really good about eating small portions....

But I know, I still suck. "

Anyway, I hope that clears things up.

Good for you diet peach! I don't think it is any more wrong to try to justify eating poorly than it is to try to justify being judgmental (bordering on mean). As you said ALS, you have made mistakes before and will again. As have I and everyone else on here. It all just works better if we are more forgiving with one another. Forgiveness does not equal enabling. Most of us struggle with security issues as it is, and our goal is to quit trying to feel like a piece of dirt, and this should be a safe place for that. Whether you justify it or not, your post seemed mean. And now mine does as well. So I am very sorry. Good luck to you in your journey!

I tend to get annoyed, but I know the problem is really me, lol.

I just have no patience with people less strong than myself and I freely admit it. I have made mistakes, I fall off the wagon, but I consider my journey a whole series of steps, and perfection at every stage is not crucial. But I did follow post op instructions becuase it was important.

People who cant get their act together, commit themselves to this journey and do it well tend to annoy me. I am a bit of a perfectionist in every other area of life as well - I achieve big things, yes, and I get admiration for it, but it also makes me an intolerant pain in the arse.

So I try to avoid these threads now. I would make a useless counsellor or psychologist as I would just tell everyone to snap out of it. I'm damn glad my kids are pretty smart and do well at school because I wouldnt be very patient with a child who struggled.

I'm a hard taskmaster. So I try to apply that to myself because I can be very harsh on people who arent quite so strong and I'm not the best one to give help with these threads.

Im a good person to be banded actually. It suits me personality wise. Others should have considered other surgeries. I try not to apply my standards to them.

But obviously at times I do. And it usually results in threads that are 52 pages long and end up being locked, lol.

There isn't one specifically labeled "Bandster Hell" though. It's more indirect than that.

But there is a TON of good information there for pre-ops so I figured I'd pass the link around. :(

I read those when I first started LBT. I agree this is a must read area. The "Bandster Hell" though is what I was directly referring to. Explaining that it's very normal to get VERY hungry as the healing progresses - and what they should do about it. The one about "I'm starving yada yada yada" comes close but I don't think it is descriptive enough. And I think it should also include something the effect of warning people that surgeons food selection covers every spectrum of the rainbow - but it's important to follow what YOUR doctor says - not what some other bandster ate and got away with.

Unfortunately though, even with that type of specific content, a lot of people will just post a question anyway because they're too lazy to search. My thought is that it would make things easier for US to just post the link and then they can go research things themselves.

:cornut: That solicited a good laugh Jacqui - thanks! So... what your saying is you're not sure what the future holds for you? :ban:

Anyhoo...

If people post a question like some discussed here and wonder if the sky is falling :( then I can't help but believe what they're really seeking is a swift kick in the arse... And you'll find it on here that's for sure!

If you won't listen to your doctor or criticism then all we're doing is :).... Truth is, the tool that some people need applied is... :smash:

But when people get the :) they have coming (and probably seeking) and others complain because all they ever want to read and feel is... ...then I get all :cursing:... And that is normally followed by...

Tough love is an important component and nobody wants to see people fail. Getting tough is sometimes the only way to get some people back on track. If you can't handle that... well... :dita: We're here to help people through the journey not... :tape2:....

I think that it shows that some of the doctors or programs are not preparing their patients properly. I had to learn all about it for 6 months before I got the surgery. I have a whole binder full of information that I look at everyday. I think that it is sad/scary that people are finding themselves in this situation when they should be spending the time on healing and not freaking out about if they have done something wrong or not!

I was given a huge binder too called the Toolkit. It was very informative. My doctor's almost went to the point of being TOO informative. Of course, there really is no way to have too much information, but at every turn, I was given information materials, videos, teaching sessions with various people in the office.

Its hard to believe that some people don't get this kind of information.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
