February 2nd Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

OK, I'm banded - it went really well and I got to go home yesterday evening. Having some pain that doesn't go away but it's not terrible or anything. Two of my incisions are bleeding some, the bandage over those two is soaked with blood. A guy from the hospital called this morning to see how I was doing and I asked him about the bleeding. He said it can be from too much activity and to put ice over the incisions which will help stop the bleeding. Overall, I'm fine - hoping the fourth day post op is the charm as far as the soreness is concerned.

How about the rest of you guys? How did it go? This is the first time I've felt like getting on the computer . . . so it's understandable that no other Feb 2's has posted yet, best wishes for a speedy recovery for all of us!!!

Hey gang.

Well, I went to the hospital yesterday, got all prepped for surgery and BAM!

Anesthisiologist came in and told me my potassium was dangerously low.

Surgery was a no go. :(

My surgeon told me I needed to get an appt w/ my primary care physician and get my meds adjusted and possibly begin supplements.< /strong>

Then we will reschedule surgery.

I am sooooooo beyond bummed. I was so ready for the surgery. Had all my housework done, menu's planned and shopped for for my family, bills paid.

Not to mention I was ready for my new life to begin!

Aaaargh!!!!!:(

Oh well, on to the next step, I suppose.

Hope everyone that DID have their surgery is doing well!!!!

Hugs,

I'm sorry you didn't get your band yesterday, what a bummer!! Hopefully the potassium issue is solved quickly and you can be back on the surgery schedule. Take care, let us know how it goes, of course!! I'll be pulling for you Shelly!!

I was banded on Monday February 2nd. I am still in a great deal of pain. I had to stay an extra night at the hospital (two nights total) because of the pain and my oxygen levels were low. I couldn't take a deep breath because it hurt too much! I also lost some blood and the band had to be placed twice because he didn't like how it was sitting. And he also put in extra stitches to hold the band in place. Overall he seemed happy with how things turned out, he just wanted me to hang around the hospital. Better to be safe than sorry. I am just waiting for this pain to go away! And the gas seems to have nowhere to go! I keep feeling it bubbling around in there but it never leaves the body! I feel like I might be in more pain than most. I am getting better day by day though.

I'm in more pain than I thought also, it is Friday and I am still taking pain meds and using ice on my front torso. The pain is localizing though, there is pain in the port area (some bruising also) and then I think it's actually my stomach that is sore . . . just taking is easy, I plan to go back to work next Tuesday so hopefully it'll get better each day. My Oxygen level was low in the hospital too but I could breathe deeply and it went up. Hope you feel better soon!!

hello wendy, hope today brings you to feeling more comfortable. i was surprised at how long it is taking to feel good. i thought it was an "easy operation" a person would quickly bounce back, as in a day or two. wow! reality check for me. i have found that everyone is different and has their own healing time frame. i am feeling more comfortable, slow but a little better everyday. i find the left port pain to be the real "bugger" ...hang in there, know that i too am having the same "discomfort" and that i am keeping you in my thoughts. take care.

Hi Karen,

Today has been a better day overall - still sore but not like it has been. The port pain is still there but I'm optimistic that by the time I go back to work on Tuesday it will have diminished a lot. I'm doing better post op on the liquid than I did pre-op - both 10 days but pre-op I did eat some cottage cheese when I just couldn't stand it. Post-op I am OK with the Protein . . . I am looking forward to being able to eat mushies though!

How are you doing?

I was banded Feb 2 and so far, so good!

The one bummer is that I had been reading my handbook and thought I could progress to purees tomorrow. I was really excited and planning for the foods I was going to get to incorporate into my diet. Then I realized I was reading the wrong part of the handbook (was reading for bypass not band) and in reality, I'm on clear liquids+Protein drinks for another two weeks :)

Besides that, all good!

Hey! I hope everyone is doing well.

It's one week out and I am feeling pretty good. I went back to work this morning and it hasn't been too bad.

I brought my heating pad with me, and that has helped a lot because sitting straight up makes my side hurt (I had a LARGE hiatal hernia that had to be fixed and so my doctor said my shoulder/side would hurt for about a week). Also, I still have some pain from the gas they use in surgery, even though I've been walking around.

Last night was the worst night of sleep of my life. I decided not to take pain meds because I had to drive this morning and I was afraid to take narcotics. BAD IDEA. I barely slept so I'm really looking forward to napping when I get home.

Otherwise, I'm doing well. Drinking as much liquid as I can to stay hydrated. Lotioning myself A LOT because my skin is super dry. Taking my supplements and looking forward to starting mushies on Friday!

Hi everyone, it's great that you are back to work Laurr!! I'm going back tomorrow - although I had a 'dry heaving' event yesterday that has left my stomach sore. I had a one week post op upper gi this am and all is well so I'm hoping I'll be ready to work tomorrow. Onward, the process is moving along - next to mushies on Wednesday for 10 days - that should be interesting after 20 days on liquid!! Best wishes to everyone!!

So far I am doing great. Walking everyday. Losing weight. But this clear liquid and yuck Protein Shake diet sucks! I am wondering why I am on clear liqiuds for three weeks and the bypass folks can eat sooner

johnp, everyones surgeons are different. i was on full liquids prior to surgery for 2 weeks. now post-op i have to do 10 days of thin liquids and 10 days of mushies.

hang in there, it will get better. as your body gets used to the liquid diet you will feel better.

i need to start walking more, now that the weather is getting better by me im going to start walking outside after work because treadmills bore me.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
