How often do you get filled?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was banded in late October and recently had my first fill about three almost four weeks ago. I was at a plateau at the time of my fill and Ive managed to loose about 5 lbs in the past 3 weeks since the fill. I was wondering if you all think it is too soon for me to get another fill? I can eat about a cup to a cup and a half at any meal including Breakfast (which I heard more people are tighter in the morning). I just feel like it is working but not at the pace that I want it to work at. How do I know when I need another fill? Please let me know if any of you had similar experiences. I just feel like I'm eating way too much after having a fill. Thanks so much!!

What are your surgeon's rules? Mine will only do fills at 4 weeks or more...but they are all different.

How many fills have you had restless??

I've had 3 fills for a total of 4.5 cc in my 14 cc band. I came to hungry in recovery and spend a lot of my time that way now! LOL (not whining though) My surgeon is not aggressive and has good reasons not to be. The literature I found supports this so I'm gritting my teeth and waiting for that next fill! I have gained back SOME weight but not nearly as much as I would've had I lost 41 pounds in 8 1/2 weeks pre band. So I'm not eating as much (DH says I'm not) but I am so ready to have that "satiety" and it last for longer than 2 hours!

I COULD diet while I'm waiting but that plays games with my head...I start to get a little obsessive about food (where when how much etc) and it's best if I just cruise along, making my best healthy choices, and trying to adapt!

My next fill is 2/5 and I think at 6 cc's I'll finally feel "the love" at least a little. Now every once in a while something goes down "odd"...so I'm getting there!

I was banded on 11/19/08 and had my 3rd fill last monday. I am going in this monday for another which will be my 4th. I am currently at 6.7cc in a 10cc band. I am still waiting to find the sweet spot so I can start losing.

I too am disappointed in the slow pace which I am losing weight and have almost regretted getting the surgery. However, I am dedicated in seeing how this band can work for me this year. I was hoping it would be quicker like by-pass, but in the long run I think we will be better off for having the band. Just remember you are not gaining weight which is what would happen if you were not banded. So, the band does work in a sense. I wished I was more prepared for a slower weight loss when I signed up. My fills have not been so called aggressive for me. A month was way to long, so I am going every 10 days until I hit my green zone. I want to lose 30 lbs before the end of March which is my surgaversary. Good luck, I understand your frustration. (a support group might help too and Therapy just helps everyone)

You can see that I got fills almost every week in the start.....I would say it's up to your doctor. Also my doctor lets you go back to eating the same day.....all he ask is that you don't go out of town for 2 weeks

My surgeon recommends visits every 4 weeks, give or take a week or so. (I assume that depends on how aggressive the fill and the size of your band, though..) He will fill only if 1) you're hungry between meals and the prescribed 1/2 cup of food doesn't satisfy and if 2) you aren't losing at least 1-2 pounds per week. Otherwise, he'll suggest you meet with the dietician and figure out how you're working around the band. While I've lost relatively slowly, I am down about 80-85 pounds since starting in October of 2008. I've lost 20 pounds in the past month and had nearly 5 months of not losing. I'd strongly recommend you check in with any dietician/nutritionist to be sure your diet is on track, too. Also, movement is so important. It is undoubtedly the reason I started to lose again.....I'm doing about 16-20 miles a week on the treadmill. It's the amount my body needs to lose weight. If I do more, I get hungrier. If I do less, I don't lose.....keep track of everything you're doing to find your body's balance. Keep an open dialogue with your doctor, too....

I get fills every 3-4 wks too. I just had my 5th fill 3 weeks ago & pushed off my next a few weeks because i think i'll be too tight. I just hope it's not too far away no. I have not been hubgry much but head hunger is still there.

Firsst fill was four weeks post op and from then you have towait at least two weeks. The rule is, if you are super hungry or gaining weight come in 2-4 weeks. They do flouro (sp?) each and every time both before and after they do a fill to make sure you dont get an overfill and to make sure you are not stretching your pouch. So, it is my opinion that my doc is aggressive with fills yet careful at the same time with the monitoring of each fill under flouro.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
