Hi

I am new on here, and I am so glad I have found somewhere like this. I had a gastric band fitted 2 years ago and I have always felt alone as I have never met anyone else who has had the band fitted.

Anyway the first year of the band was perfect, I lost 2 stone easily. This last year has been a rollercoaster of extreams. One time I ended up in hospital on a drip as my band was too tight and couldn't keep my own saliva down. (At this point I was going through a private company and couldn't afford to pay for the band to be loosend) I then had the band loosened (my mother paid) and was okay. But started to put on a lot of weight.

Anyway, the band started to feel tighter, but I hadn't had a fill. It got so tight that I started to be keep awake at night with acid regurgitation. I went to my GP who (not knowing anything about Gastric Bands) refered me for a gastroscopy.

Luckily the doctor doing the gastroscopy was a gastric band surgeon and told me I didn't need the gastroscopy and just loosend the band. He also admitted me into his NHS clinic.

I started to eat again, and went to his clinic to have a fill. The band felt to tight so he took some Fluid out about a fortnight later. That was in October. I have been fine since then until new years eve.

I had just booked my band fill appointment (for 13th Jan) just a week earlier. but since new years eve I have not been able to eat anything bar the odd portion of mashed potato. Today has been the worse again struggling to keep saliva down, even though I haven't eaten or drank anything since last night.

Does anyone know why my band keeps getting tighter all the time.

I am worried that I am getting into a cycle where the band gets too tight - I get it loosend - I put on weight - the band gets tight again.

Please help...

I am sorry your having problems. Has any of these docs checked your band under X ray ? Or given you an Upper GI to check the placement of the band ?

If not I would go in and insist on it ! Something seems to be going on .

I hope you get better soon .

Mindy

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
