Started Pre-op today! Excited and ...

Recommended Posts

All I can think about is, 'How am I going to make it for 13 more days?" It has only been 4 hours since I woke up!

I am off work this week, so I have more time on my hands than usual! :tongue2:

I need to get moving and do something to get my mind off of this ! I know it is purely psychological, as there are many days that I don't have anything to eat until lunch time, and already today, I;ve had a shake, a cup of tea and some crystal light!

I have a question - has anyone begun a mild workout program during the preop diet? I have a membership at a gym ( pay everymonth but never use) and am thinking it might be a good distraction to do some light cardio. Of course I am looking for an excuse, and am afraid it might make me hungry! Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I am SO excited for 1/12/09! NYU - Dr. Ren

Also - can anyone point me in the right direction for putting a ticker on my signature?

I started my pre-op today too! I'm working nights tonight and I'm worried how I will make it all night with nothing to eat!!! I'm setting here looking at my elipitical trying to make myself get on it and exercise. If this program is going to work, I'd better get on it. Good luck to you. I'm also having my surgery on Jan. 12!~!!!:tongue2:

stay focused, you will get there, & drink lots of hot fluids to keep you full for longer,

i am using my treadmill, though i have just done 15 min hardish workout on it & came off feeling very dizzy, so i will reduce it to half & keep busy doing housework,

Im just so bothered about catching a cold/flu as people are getting the winter bugs..

is there any precautions i can take to avoid it? apart from hiding :tongue2:

Betsygirl....

Thanks for your reply! Where are you having your surgery? I think it would be tough to work nights, as I would always think that if I felt tired, a cookie or something would help me stay up. Good luck tonight! We can do it!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
