HI! I live in Mt. Vernon and am looking for a support group in the area - Mt. Vernon, Marion, Carbondale, etc. I will have surgery on 10-26 in St. Louis, but would like a support group closer to home. Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks.

I just found this thread - I live just north of Marion. I had my surgery Jan 4, 2010. There must be more Southern Illinoisians out there somewhere!

I am from Southern Il and I am hoping to meet others in my area that are getting or have the band. I would love to talk to anyone as well. I am 3 months into my diet with the Dr. and have had all my tests done. I am hoping and praying all goes smoothly with the process.

Michele

I am from Southern Illinois. I had my surgery on July 14,2010. I have lost about 20 lbs, and have had 1 fill. I will have my second one on wednesday. Have you had your surgery? If you have , have you had any problems?

I am also from Mt. Vernon and had lapband in July. There is a support group through Crossroads hosp. I am not sure when it meets, but you can call the hosp. or call 1-(866)622-9222. This is the Dr. that does Lapband in Mt. Vernon and they can give you the info.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
