Lettuce and Cabbage

Recommended Posts

Can I eat lettuce and cabbage or is that really bad. I been craving a salad for the past month but I remember someone telling me it was bad for the digestion.

I think its more that lettuce is one of the more common foods that get stuck easily.

I can eat salads without a problem but I definitely feel a little uncomfortable when I eat the fancier lettuce mixes - you know the ones that combine rocket and arugula and spinach etc, all the different coloured leaves. Plain old unfashionable ice berg lettuce is WAY better for me. And my kids like that too, so that's what we use generally.

I do absolutely fine eating salads, as a matter of fact, I love getting salads from subway!!! Cabbage however... gives me too much gas and pain!!! I avoid it!!!

Like Jachut, I have to be really careful with the soft lettuce mixes, but a good crunchy lettuce is fine. I do best with romaine. It was recommended on this board a while back, and sure enough, I did much better with it. Cooked cabbage is no problem at all. I make stuffed cabbage rolls all the time. But I don't care much for raw cabbage. I'm not a fan of cole slaw.

I have had (knock on wood) no problems with any lettuce varieties or cabbage whether raw or cooked.

Love my greens!

I have never heard of problems from eating cabbage or lettuce. I do just fine with both of them. I usually eat a salad about 2-3 times a week, although there are weeks that I just crave them and eat them everyday.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
