band sizes - - please explain

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that some of you have posted about the size of your bands ..... I was not aware that there were different sizes ....... how do you know what size to have placed.

I am in the researhing phase of all this.

Thanks,

Sherri

Hi Sherri,

I asked my doctor what size mine was. Some surgeons give you a card of sorts after surgery, with the information for your specific band. Mine didn't do that.

I didn't have a choice of band size. I ask my surgeon and he told me what size he put in and how many cc's it held. I guess some dr. tell you and some don't.

I think I read here that it depends on how much weight you need to lose. but I am not sure.

Good luck on the research, :)

My doc said he picks the size once he gets inside and sees your anatomy. Some of the decision lies in how much weight you need to lose, I'm sure, but really it's which band fits your body best. Inamed has 3 sizes of bands, and someone correct me if I'm wrong. They have a 9.75cm and a 10cm band, each with a 4cc saline capacity. Then they have a 10cc "Vanguard" band that is made differently, it has balloons of saline all around, rather than the solid ring of the smaller bands. I'm not sure of the cicumference. I think the website for Inamed (the maker of the only FDA approved band) is www.Inamed.com and surely they have pics there? Good luck! Happy Researching!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
