So what's with all the gas

Recommended Posts

I am 2 years post op and the gas has not gotten better.

I have now started taking 2 beanos with every meal. I think it's better but it's not gone.

Don't eat anything with that sugar alcohol in it or it's usually listed on the label as malitol. That stuff will

give you enough gas to float away.

Does the ginger snaps just help with the smell but not stop the gas?

 ok, I am two days post-op and my problem is that I am not passing gas--just once or twice today. Instead I have burps that would power a bus!!! When will I start passing the gas? And is there a BM in my future? I am so glad I found this thread, it is pretty embarrassing otherwise.

You are so reading my mind. I kept expecting something other than these burps, and I too have been waiting on the first post op BM.

Well, tonight the forces of nature switched gears in a major way. Sorry for the grossness of this post, but lets just say the first one after surgury will be special, and the gas has moved from burps to well... what you'all are talkn about.

I was banded just yesterday. We are so in the same boat.

LOL...Move over in that boat and make room for me because I am right there with the rest of you when it comes to burping.

I'm an 8th grade science and social studies teacher and was just talking to my son about how I was going to try and learn to burp and say the alphabet because my students would think it would be so cool.

Oh my goodness. I don't think I can live this way. Someone has to have a cure for this gas. I'm waiting for a response to the gingersnaps. Does it help with the gas or just the smell? Also, does Beano really work? Who else has tried it?

The gingersnaps help with both smell and air. Make sure they have ginger in them, there are some out there that do not. So be careful and read the labels.

I'm glad to hear I am not alone! Good grief...the gas has been CRAZY! It has gone from being an intense pain to just very loud gas. The good thing is that is rarely smells. It is just embarassing. I had to tell the hubby to get used to it...i got really tired of running out of the room. I also took a trip in which I had to fly. Good news: fit in the seat a lot better. Bad news: gas didn't go away for the 4 hour plane ride. ARGH!!

OMG! Ive been looking for a remedy for this awful gas since I was banded. If its the Ginger that works, I'm gonna start drinking ginger tea. I cant and dont trust myself to eat ginger snaps, Cookies are my weakness.

You know, sometimes we can't smell our own gas. I have passed some and I couldn't smell a thing and everyone around me was yelling "who farted?!" Of course, I denied it, but I think they are silent but deadly at times.

Sometimes they are even far from silent.

I think the beano helps but it does not get rid of it completely. The phrase There will be no more gas is

a lie.

I will look into ginger tea as well.

The only reason I found out about the gingersnaps was because I talked to 2 friends at the same time and one is in the medical field and the other is 6 years out on a bypass. I asked about the gas and both of them at the same time said"Gingersnaps". Ok so the friend with the bypass said it was superbad as far as smell went and told me a story that had me rolling on the floor. So I came home from Florida and told my hubby, he is a diabetic and eats everything sugar free however ya gotta be careful of the sugar alcohols, They will tear you up! Gas and worse.. so I told him to try it cause he literally drives me out of the bedroom at night. Ok well he does 2 Cookies first thing in the morning and then depending on what he has had to eat he will do 2 more in the evening, It helps aloT!!!!!!!!!! Since being banded I do have gas but It is not smelly yet, I am sure it will get there when I start to eat more foods. Ginger tea is a great idea. I was just thinking about getting the root itself and getting creative in the kitchen. Good luck.

I have to say, my boys think it's a riot, while my wife and daughter are disgusted. Just saw my doctor today. He said it goes away in about a year.

Are you so happy you didit?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
