change of heart

For those of you who have had the surgery, I have a couple of questions. Do you have a lot of nausea and vomitting? If so, is the nausea caused by the band itself around the stomach or is it because you eat something wrong, the same question for the vomitting, is it from the band or is it what, and how much you put in your stomach? Also, has anyone experienced severe heartburn, and how often? What is the "Dumping" mean?

I've had my band for 3 1/2 months, and I've not experienced any of those problems. If someone is experiencing nausea, vomiting, severe heartburn, it could be that their band is too tight, they're eating too fast, not chewing thoroughly, or I suppose it could mean that, for some reason, their body is reacting negatively to the band. It's something that would warrant a trip back to the doctor though.

From what I've read, dumping generally refers to what happens to some people who have had gastric by-pass surgery, not lap band, when they eat sweets.

As far as nausea, I had that while in the hospital for 2.5 days. I have a difficult time with pain meds, which make me nauseated. An anti-nausea patch behind the ear did the trick. Plus, the doctor gave me extra Patches for home. Once I stopped the pain meds I was no longer nauseated. I have never felt sick to my stomach after eating or after a fill.

Dumping syndrome is associated to gastric banding patients. Products that are high sugar are not easily digestible, thus the product flows right out of the digestive track into the bowels, and out of the patients system as massive diarrhea.

You can do a Google search and the other symptons of dumping.

That's awesome. I have also made the decision to lose weight with eating better and exercising more. I also have decided not to undergo surgery. For me personally, I just don't want to go through all of that gassy, bloated, nausea, vomitting, severe heartburn, bad breath, burping, dumping and whatever else may come along. Also the fact that I am very limited with food, like rice, Diet soda, not being able to take any motrin for a headache, that to me is awful. I want to be able to eat anything (in moderation) and not be miserable even though I am losing weight. I would rather work hard in the gym and go home feeling great (physically and mentally). I know all that stuff might not happen to me but it is definitly a risk I have to take. No thanks. I don't have any major health problems, just high cholesterol, but I know what I need to do to lower it. So to all the of you who have had or will have the lap band, may you be blessed and I hope all go's well for each and every one of you.

I went to a surgeon about a year ago and started the whole process, even getting approved by my insurance. And then I chickened out. I decided that I would wait until my husband got back from Iraq and that him and I would eat healthier and exercise together, etc. And we did. And then he retired from the military and we didn't any more. Long story short...I am the same now that I was last year, and the year before that, and the year before that and so on. The biggest difference for me this year is that I have watched six people that I know who have had it done and who have had it done very successfully. The sixth person was my dad. He was the one that finally made the decision right in my mind. So....I have my appointment with the surgeon on the sixth of January and very excited and anxious. I know that there will be inconveniences and pains and adjustments. But I guess in the end I decided that some temporary discomfort caused by eating too much was better than the long term discomfort of diabetes, or heart failure, foot and knee problems. My PCM kinda of confirmed this for me a couple of days ago by putting me on blood sugar medicine because I am now, at 36, borderline diabetic. I suppose I am one of the lucky ones though because I have tremendous support from my family, friends, coworkers and doctor.

Either way, good luck in your own decision and I sincerly hope that everything works out for you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
